Does anyone know if the DMV will give me an ID card once I can show them my EAD? (I live in West Virginia) I tried looking on the website but there's nothing written in regards to this topic. Thanks

Took me 20 seconds to find...

First official link in Google:

http://www.transportation.wv.gov/DMV/Drivers/Pages/Drivers-Licenses.aspx

Clearly saying:

If foreign born, valid, unexpired Department of Homeland Security (DHS) document(s) or acceptable alternatives as outlined below:
Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) issued by DHS (or INS)
Employment authorization document (EAD) issued by DHS, Form I-766 or Form I-688B

Yes, we found that page, too. It does not tell us anything about EAD being of use for an ID card for someone who entered the U.S. using a K1 visa.... Thank you.

It does though. It states that foreign born individuals can use the EAD as ID for the purpose of getting a state ID, along with the other required documents. You are not going to find requirements for state licenses and IDs that specifically single out non-resident aliens that entered via a K-1 visa. The requirements are general, for everyone that is not a US citizen. They won't list what each visa entry type would require. They all require one of those things listed.

We used my wife's I94 to get the initial license/ID in Michigan. It was only good for 90 days, but saved us the trouble of having to establish state residency when she received her EAD and GC as then it became just a renewal.

Good Luck!

I got a 5-years valid state ID after going to DMV and just showing my EAD. They most probably looked at the EAD I presented and saw that I was adjusting status from K-1 visa.

I live in California so I don't know if the same thing will happen in your state.

Check my timeline for K-1 visa & AOS details
