State tax transcripts

Wondered how many of you did or didn't include state tax transcripts? It does mention both federal and state in the I751 instructions.

Thing is we going to submit the federal (IRS), but getting the state transcripts is proving a bit of a hassle and we running short on time. Thinking about just skipping it....

I would definately recommend supplying all required documentation to avoid a bigger delay.

It also ofcourse depends on if your state has state tax. For myself in Texas there is no "state tax" but again supplying all the requested documentation upfront is the best idea.

We sent a tax transcripts from the IRS for 2013 only. 2014 we hadn't filed yet when I did RoC because we had an extension, so we just sent a copy of the Form 4868 that our accountant had prepared and sent with part-payment of estimated tax due.

The IRS transcripts listed our State tax under "Taxes paid" in the first line-item (California, too - I happen to have the transcripts to hand since I just filed N-400, so I can see the line items), so I'm guessing that's all they needed to see. We didn't get an RFE - not even for the 2014 tax docs.

I agree in principle, however it doesn't appear that black and white in this instance. For example, if we miss the filing deadline waiting for state tax returns, that would be worse. Really trying to gauge likelihood of an RFE from not sending state transcripts. My intuition (which could be wrong) says that it's pretty low and probably worth the tradeoff.

To be 100% honest, I didn't even THINK about the State taxes until I read this thread. I just didn't even bother to check if they showed on the IRS transcript, and never gave it a second thought.

I guess I never see people talk about State transcripts on here as a seperate item - I presume folks are always including that data, whether you send transcripts from the IRS or your full tax return, regardless, maybe, because either show State tax paid?

That's actually a great point and now that you mention it, I mean I don't even know if CA has such a thing as a "tax transcript"?

The closest I've seen mentioned online is a copy of the tax return can be requested from MyFTB.

A transcript is just a short version of a return - like a boiled down receipt -, so even though it doesn't say it by name, a transcript is just as valid. A lot of people send those because they're not as heavy.

Well an IRS transcript just confirms that the petitioner/applicant actually filed his/her taxes. It's not necessarily a light tax return; it's more of a receipt for your tax return. I've never heard of a state tax transcript, and I've never heard of USCIS requiring a state tax transcript.

Sure - Nich-Nick always does a better job of explaining tax stuff than I do. But, bottom line: IRS transcripts are FINE and I too have never seen anyone on here saying they've been asked for a State transcript or return by USCIS.

Previous threads seem to give the same advice - don't bother with State, IRS tax transcripts have got ya' covered!

Yes. IRS transcripts are even better than the federal return itself (if you for some reason don't have copies of the return). State tax transcript just doesn't make sense, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist? I didn't even include my state tax return. OP, I wouldn't worry about it!

We just submitted Federal Tax Transcripts. Did not send NY State info. Of course, we haven't been approved yet, so I cannot verify that is isn't an issue!!!

We sent IRS transcripts only and were approved without any problem.

We sent 3 federal tax return transcripts. (2012, 2013, 2014) We did not send returns, federal or state.

Was approved with no RFE.

It is my understanding that transcripts are much better than sending the whole return for two reasons; 1. lighter weight, usually only one or two pages, and 2. it's proof you actually filed them with the IRS
