Hi, all.

I made it to the US on monday. After almost a month spending time with my family in Spain, the last week joined by my fiance, I flew to the US on monday from London direct flight to Seattle. I landed quite late in the day (almost 9 pm) so immigration was pretty empty and it went fast.

I first went to a regular officer from the Visitors line with my passport, white I-94 card and the brown sealed envelope. He asked me a couple of questions like how long ago my fiance and I met, how, and when was the wedding date. Now, we haven't been able to plan it much, and we need to coordinate families schedules, so we haven't set it up yet. I was pretty tired and out of it, so when I replied: I don't know the wedding date yet, the guy looked at me funny, and I thought: oh, oh, i screwed up, but then took my fingerprints and photo and sent me to a second officer on a window down the aisle. There I waited for my turn for a few minutes, the guy opened the envelope, looked at papers and kept the file, asked me the same questions (this time i replied: "still working on dates, but probably early May" to the wedding date one) stamped my passport and attached the 94 form stub and gave me a paper with instructions for the AOS. Right before i left he told me if things don't go well and I change my mind about the wedding i don't have to go through it, which i found a bit weird, he just said he's seen it happen so he likes to let everyone know just in case.

So all in all it was pretty painless and fast.

Now it's getting over jet lag, of which i have no problems so far, and starting to do all the millions of things i need to do, but I think getting a SSN is #1 cos you can't do much here without it. The officer told me i could go get one straight away, but from everyone's experience here it seems that I won't be able to get it for at least 2 weeks, right?

Anyways, wanted to share my experience. Now it's off to preparing for the wedding, and starting with the next step: AOS. And of course, the most important, enjoy the time with my man.

Welcome to the U.S.!!!!

You should definitely wait for 2 weeks before applying for your SSN, because it takes at least that long for you to show up in their systems.

Good luck with the wedding planning and the AOS part of your journey.

We applied for SSN in the first couple days he was here. It's been a few weeks and it's still pending DHS clearance. Might as well wait.

We knew we were supposed to wait, but we got impatient. :)

Anyway, welcome home!

Welcome!, and thank you for taking the time to post this. Most of us are worried what will happen when our fiancee hits the air port, but this does help take some of the mystery out of it.
