A particular bugbear of mine. Can't tell you the number of times friends in NY have told me we are eating Kobe beef steaks when they are fakes. Also the sushi restaurants which don't use Japanese rice. Even the "Japanese rice" sold in shops in Seattle according to a Japanese friend of mine is fake. Uggggh. More regulation is needed!!!!!

Penn and Teller have a showtime show called BS. Great show. The setup a fake 5 star restaurant. Bought cheap canned food, stale bread etc. Invited gourmet customers who raved about the food.

It's amazing how some people's taste changes with the menu price. It's like people enjoy overpaying for garbage just so they can say they paid that much.

Like those people who shop for organic food or whole foods market?

Or some peeps who think they're special because they only drink microbrews. Some of that swill could be labeled "Donkey Urine" and they'd think it's great.

And 5 guys isn't really a high end burger joint. There's some yuppie pubs round here that charge $20 for a burger & fries. The Harvard crowd eats it up.

I went to a Christie's brunch and they served doughnuts and coffee in an attempt to be hip. Lots of disgruntled dealers ....

Coffee and doughnuts are okay so long as there's flowers on the table.
