Hi!

Perhaps different embassies have different processes. In Thailand it works like this: embassy receives case from NVC and then sends a letter to the fiance (called Packet 3) with instructions for what to send back to the embassy for review: DS-160, visa payment receipt, birth certificate, police clearance certificate, military records, affidavit of support, and so on...plus English translations of any Thai documents.

After the embassy receives Packet 3, the documents are reviewed and then an email is sent to the fiance confirming interview appointment and instructions for additional documents (including evidence of relationship) to bring to the interview.

I hope that helps. I didn't mean to cause any confusion.

Oh ok. In Sweden, the embassy emails the petitioner on the Packet 3. Fiancé fills out the DS-160, brings the confirmation page with barcode to the interview. Then pays for the visa fee, schedules her own interview date and all the documents as stated in the Packet 3, will be brought to the interview including the Affidavit of Support, Police clearances and whatever forms they require. Now, the medical exam will be scheduled by my fiancé 2 weeks before her interview.

Yeah, it's different in every embassy.

Yeah, it's different in every embassy.

Ah, the process in Sweden sounds a bit more straightforward and perhaps easier. The process in Thailand feels a bit more convoluted and perhaps somewhat repetitive. But they make it very clear what's expected.

Good luck to you! Really lucky indeed...who ever thought it would be an option for us? Whenever I get down about how long the process takes and worry about whether we'll be successful, my fiance reminds me that just a years ago it wasn't an option for us...and he says that nothing can stop true love.
