My husband had a successful info pass appointment this morning he got a 1 year stamp which expires in May of 2018. The representative said the processing time for these cases are 1 year or more. His extension letter expires 6-23-17. We will be filing for citizenship next month.

This is just misleading. YOU DO NOT NEED A STAMP TO TRAVEL OUT OF US! Your PR status has been extended for one year. It's totally OKAY to travel out of US with extension letter and expired green. I don't why people are so obsessed with the stamp, your PR status is still valid for a year while I-751 is pending, the CBP will not deny your entry to US. This has been confirmed for so many times by CBP and USCIS officers.

Maybe, but your post is also misleading. As long as your extension is valid, you don't need a stamp to travel out of the US. But most of the people posting these days are legitimately concerned that their extension is expiring. Not everyone filed their I-751 at the beginning of the 90day window, so the expiry of their green card extension may be quite soon! Some of them are concerned that their extension will expire while they are out of the country. If that is the case, then they may not need the stamp to leave the US, but they will need the stamp to return.

Generally speaking, I've found that people on these threads use bold or italics, or both to make a point, rather than using all caps, which is perceived as shouting.

So, to clarify (again):

Your extension letter plus your green card is equivalent to an unexpired green card until 1 year after the expiry date on the green card.

-there has been anecdotal evidence that some (not all) CBP officers are unclear about this rule, but should you happen to run into one of those officers, stay calm and ask them to double check, since the 1 year extension is supposed to apply to your green card date. No one has been denied due to this, only delayed.

If it is one month before that date (ie: 1 year after the expiry date on your green card minus one month), you need the stamp to travel. You may also need to get the stamp earlier if you're going to be out of the country on the date your extension expires.

Is your timeline updated?

Hi, guys, i know all this waiting is so hard, ( I'm so stressed and i will love to see an approve soon) so let's laugh a little bit:

3 drunk guys enterd a taxi. The taxi driver
knew that they were drunk so he started the
engine & turned it off again. Then said, "We
have reached your destination". The 1st guy
gave him money & the 2nd guy said "Thank
you". The 3rd guy slapped the driver. The
driver was shocked thinking the 3rd drunk
knew what he did. But then he asked "What
was that for?". The 3rd guy replied, "Control
your speed next time, you nearly killed us!" :P

Also, for those of you who have had to get the extension after the 1 year mark, what did that entail? Did they interview you at all or did they just stamp the passport?

Thank you!

I'm surprised that they haven't updated the processing times. They usually update sometime around the 15th of the month - but clearly they're running behind on this as much as they are with everything else.

Remember - the people on the phone are just glorified operators. You absolutely can make an InfoPass appointment (actually, you can make one pretty much whenever you want, if you want any information. That's the whole point of an InfoPass.

(Probably what the operator thought you meant was a "service request" and you can't make one of those until your case is "outside of normal processing times" - which right now means a year or more)

Anyway, get online about a month before the 1 year anniversary of the date on your husband's green card (that's when the extension expires) and make an appointment for the stamp. Even the most hard a$$ed of officers will give you the stamp then.

Again, for the bazillionth time, (not to you, of course, but this question has been answered A LOT, you are never out of status while your I-751 petition is pending. The letter/stamp is proof of your status, which remains unchanged.

I haven't heard of anyone getting much of an interview before getting the stamp. They might ask why you need it, but generally they just give you the stamp, regardless of whether it's before or after your extension expires.

Is your timeline updated?

HI All. my wife and I submitted our I751 in June 2016 to Vermont. We just got a request for more evidence. Not going to lie, kind of freaking out. They pointed out in the letter that the tax return I sent was not the actual confirmed receipt , which is my fault I will send this along  with our most recent joint tax return too, and they also mentioned that the joint lease I sent was only the first page of the lease and not the entire document, again, my fault I will send this along. I am a little worried as my wife and I were living with family during the first year or so, and didn't really start getting relevant docs until 2016. I am getting sworn affidavits from my wife's family relating to this.   I also didn't start full time work until the summer of 2016, so I now have my wife as a beneficiary on my work life insurance and she is on my work dental plan, I plan on sending all this along too.  I'm just worried since a lot of our docs are for the past couple of years and not all the way back to 2014. Any thoughts, I'm Canadian, and interview would seem bizarre at this stage, and my wife and I have been living together since 2009, and married since 2014.

But don't you need to get your passport stamped anyway just to extend your CPR regardless whether you will be traveling or not?

But don't you need to get your passport stamped anyway just to extend your CPR regardless whether you will be traveling or not?

No. Your status (Legal Permanent Resident - Removal of Conditions pending) doesn't change.  It's a good idea to continue to have proof of your status (especially in states that insist on proof for drivers' licenses etc, and to be able to easily prove your status if you're looking for a new job) but if you're not travelling, have a full term driver's license and aren't likely to change jobs, you don't need to get the stamp unless you want to.

This is the reason why we keep getting pushed to the back of the line for processing. Our status is safe - we never lose status throughout the process until and unless our petition is actually denied.

Is your timeline updated?

Thanks, I didn't know that. My father in Taiwan has cancer. Maybe it is a good idea to get my passport stamped just in case of i need to fly back due to family emergency...So frustrating, they can't even pull their together and update the processing times...i have a feeling we won't be approved until October or November....

The one-year anniversary of my GC's expiration is coming up on 6/11, so I'm relieved to be able to say that I have an InfoPass appointment with the St. Paul, MN office next week. It took more than a few weeks of checking multiple times a day to find an open time slot, but they finally started opening up last week. The office went through a move to Minneapolis in April (even thought it's still being referred to as "St. Paul," for now), which probably didn't help things.

As others have said, the stamp offers peace of mind for those who may need proof of status in the interim between the extension letter expiring and the new card being produced. My wife and I have some significant life changes coming up this summer, which includes moving to a different state. Such a process brings up a whole host of circumstances in which I may need to provide immediate proof of status. I also would like to be able to travel back home in short notice in case of family emergency, without having to worry about complications upon re-entry.
