So DH went to renew his driver's license yesterday (his license expires this week, the same as his green card) and our BMV gave us such a run around. First they said he can't renew his DL because he doesn't have current status. He handed them the extension letter and they said well we have to call but before we do we need to see your social security card, and proof of address. When we had called to ask what to bring they said just the letter was needed. Back home to get the documents and come back to BMV, wait again and then they look over all the documents and say "oh you aren't a permanent resident you are just temporary" and we said no he's a conditional permanent resident which is NOT a temporary resident (their own paper on the wall said temporary residents are those with H1B, student visa etc). Then she said she has to make a call and we wait for 30 min before she comes back and rudely finishes our paperwork and takes DH picture for his new DL. GAH so much headache, rudeness and hassle!

Just wanted to share in case others have to renew their driver's license, take as much documentation that you could think they may ask for that way you won't have to make multiple trips. Clearly the person we spoke to on the phone had no idea what they were talking about OR the lady at the desk was incorrect in asking for these documents.

Wow, I feel pretty lucky. I filed end of May, but probably received at USCIS early June. Had Biometrics in early July. I have the 1 -year extension letter for my Green Card (since it technically expires August 2016), and with the waiting times for processing of 10-year green card being about 9+ months, I'll probably be applying for citizenship before I get my 10-year green card. Go figure.

Now here's my question for those who have already done biometrics: the only case number I got was on the 1-year green card extension letter. When I look that case number up on the USCIS case status search, it does not give me any case update (ie: for the 10 year green card). It simply references sending a letter in the mail regarding my biometrics appointment (which is already done).

Besides checking the USCIS case status/processing time page for different applications, is there a way to search SPECIFICALLY for an update on my case for the 10 year green card?

Thank you!

Just got my biometrics done! I got the letter yesterday (after around 60 days since NOA) with an appointment for August 12th, but we will be on vacation at the time so I decided to try a walk-in. They had like only one other person there when I arrived, so I was in and out in 15 minutes. The person who accepted it was a bit grumpy about me trying to do it when it wasn't my appointment, but oh well.

We received our Biometrics too, appointment is in first week of August. What a freaking luck, after waiting for two and half months, the appointment falls on the day we were planning a vacation. We kind of felt this risk, so we had not booked our hotels and rental car. Also, we booked our flights through Southwest, thinking if needed we could change the flights easily. Well, we are postponing our vacation by couple weeks. I just don't wish to take any risk by either trying to have a walk-in or requesting new date. Especially, considering there is anothe 3-4 months wait after bio screening.

Anyway, would you be kind enough to add me in the worksheet as well? All my details are in the profile or one of my posts from July 13 in this thread. Thanks!

Thank you!

There is no other way to check for updates, since there really aren't any steps between biometrics and decision, unless you get an RFE. It is now just a wait and see while they process the paperwork. The next update will either be an RFE, or a decision on the case (card production, interview, etc..).

Just came back from a vacation overseas. For anyone wondering about traveling while waiting for AOS, we had absolutely no problems at all. At checkin, they looked at the green card, looked something up in the computer, and that's it - never mentioned that it was expired or that the name didn't match the name in the passport (my wife never changed her name in the foreign passport, but the green card is in the married name).

At JFK we had to go to the visitors lane, not the US citizens one, but that was better as there were a lot less people there. The officer asked for the green card and the foreign passport, looked something up in the computer, never mentioned the expired green card or non-matching names. Wife had to put in fingerprints and get a photo taken just like anyone coming in on a visa. Otherwise no hassle at all. We did not have to show NOA letter to anybody at all (we did have it with us).
