Hey Angela,

I was about to send you a message. I did my biometrics at the Holtsville USCIS office almost 3 weeks ago... No news, no update, and my case status still says "Not recognized"..... I see that you case is ready for interview, that's awesome!!!! Idk what's taking so long with my case...

Concerning the processing times, I am not able to find it for that office on the VJ website - the closest that I can find is NYC.

I did find on the USCIS website the processing time for "Long Island NY Office"

I really hope that it is not Holtsville (or not true!!), because as of March 31, 2016, they were processing I-485 cases as of date July 12, 2015 :cry: !!!

Thank you, although I think it will be in that status for a while. I have no idea what is going on with my EAD, whether I will even get it now.

You're right, those processing times are a little worrying however I did a little research into some of the March/April filers who already have their interviews and what their offices say:

Portland OR - November 4, 2015

Columbus OH - November 26, 2015

Helena MT - October 29, 2015

So I don't trust that website too much, looks like it hasn't been updated or it's just wrong. Hopefully we'll both hear something soon.

Yes, that's correct - the DHS authorization is referring to your EAD :)

Your EAD card is different from your SSN card.

You can have your SSN changed and have that "restriction" removed once your have your greencard. You have to go back to the SSA office for them to remove the "Valid for work only with DHS authorization", but you can already start working once you have the EAD. The EAD is the DHS authorization that you need so you can work.

April 22, 2016 – Received SMS & E-mail Notification (Day 9)

April 25, 2016 – Received Hard Copy of NOA1 (Day 12)

May 2, 2016 – Received Biometric Appointment (Day 19)

May 13, 2016 – Biometric Schedule (Day 30)

May 30, 2016 – Updated I-485 to “Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for Interview” (Day 47)

June 29, 2016 - Submitted Service Request (Day 76)

Yay! I've been waiting for EAD approval for 84 days now... tracker still says "case received." I put in a service request 11 days ago. Haven't heard anything yet, but your update makes me hopeful! If I don't have it by day 90, it's time to contact the ombudsman....

I hope you hear something soon!! I was told to call back if I hadn't heard anything within 15 days of the officer submitting the service request - so call them in 4 days if you still haven't heard anything?

Hello everyone, I have a quick question, a fellow friend from here went to get her husband's social security before filing for AOS, and they told her:

"K1 visa holders have automatic work authorization for the duration of the visa period. Then after that wait for the employment authorization card."

Can anyone comment on this and if it's true? I called SS office and they told me I should go in show my visa and previous social security (of when I was a student) so they can updated it and they will tell me if I can work or not. Anyone heard of this?

The info she got is wrong. you can only work when you have Ead and the ssn.

You can file for ead as soon as you want, paying for it, and it will be valid for 90 days from your entry. But it takes around 90 days to get that document, so it would be pointless.

They're not informed enough.

In the past I believe some people would get a stamp or sticker, I'm not sure, that would allow the to work but it's been quite a while.

Day 61 for us since NOA.. No updates as yet apart from the biometric on May 10.. Even the Online case status does not work for us as we are always getting validation errors.. I really wish we could get some form of visibility for our applications..We are hopeful that we might receive some form of good news in the next 2 weeks as we reach our 75 day mark.. If no news by day 75, i guess we will have to put in a service request to inquire about the status...

Will wait for fellow visajourney members to chime in their thoughts on this blind yet patient hope of this process..

We are in the same situation with our K-2 visa for our son who followed 5 months after my wife entered. Having gone through the process for K-1, it went extremely fast and the USCIS.GOV site worked well in providing updates. I am annoyed at not getting updates on line this time.

I guess the good news this time is that time is not critical for us since it only prevents us from getting a Social Security number and being able to travel out of the country on short notice

11/2/2015: Not tuned in enough to Social Security not to pick "the first day of the month" to try to get signed up. Read VJ advice, it's spot on, we had a processor who knew K1. We were in the SAVE database in 3 days so it was easy after a 2 hour wait.

12/14/2015 Received 3 Emails with Acceptance confirmation of 3 applications all received 12/10/2015. Check cashed

12/18/2015 NOA1 for all 3 applications received by snail mail. NOA 1 date of 12/10/2015

12/31/2015 Received I-797C letter for Biometric Appointment on 1/11/2016 in Nashville instead of Memphis Yea!

1/6/2016 Biometric Appointment Walk IN - DONE

1/14/2016 Received a I-797C letter dated 1/9/2016 that we DO NOT need to do biometrics, already have enough information in the system from previous entries (Likely from B1/B2 visa last year)

2/9/2016 I-765 EAD DENIED But... a minute later....

2/9/2016 I-485 Application CARD ORDERED on 2/6/2016

2/10/2016 GREEN CARD SHIPPED on 2/9/2016 2/11/2016 GREEN CARD IN HAND!!! RECORD TIME 62 DAYS

AOS/AP/EAD Journey for Son on K-2 Visa

3/16/2016 All arrive in Chicago from Vietnam. Son passes customs with flying colors. Wife is delayed for 3.5 hours. Homeland Security lets us go with no questions... amazing. We miss our connections and get home thankfully at 1AM

4/11/2016 Package with Applications Send Fed Ex Overnight to Chicago and FedEx confirms delivery on 4/12/2016

4/26/2016 Received 3 emails and 3 text with Acceptance of confirmation of 3 applications. NOA1 Date 4/25/2016 WHAT IS GOING ON CHICAGO? Took 10 days longer than last time to just receive mail

4/27/2016 Check is cashed. Still can't look up Receipt Numbers on Case Status online at USCIS.GOV WHAT IS GOING ON?????

5/25/2016 Walk in for a "junior" Biometrics for an 11 year old (supposedly not required). Oops wrote down the wrong day, appointment was for 5/23/2016. USCIS office was nice and accepted us 2 days late.

7/13/2016 Finally the Check Status Website worked. Approved EAD and AP. Website still not working on AOS Green Card Application. No email notification at all....

7/15/2016 Card for EAD mailed. Card is for both EAD and AP. Received 7/19/2016. Waiting now for AOS Interview or Green Card Approval

7/19/2016 The USCIS.GOV is now working for our AOS application. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Seems others have access to USCIS.GOV Check Case now. Glitch fixed?

8/15/2016 I-485 Approved. Status now Card/Document Production

8/20/2016 GREEN CARD DELIVERED -118 Days K-2 Process complete, see y'all on Lifting Conditions board in a year or so
