I already have a Philippine passport before my husband and I got married. Can I use my old passport under my maiden name or should I update it?

Cause when I went to the DFA they said they said I should have a seminar or something either in Cebu or Manila and it's really gonna take awhile to do all those.

What do you want to use your passport for? Travel, yes you can still use your old passport as long as it is valid. Other than that, you might want to define your question a bit..

Best of luck!

Not necessarily. But would it be okay? Can I travel using my old passport? I believe we should bring our passports during the interview.

We are processing our K3 visa and I believe they will look for our passport at the embassy? And yes we do need it for travelling and yes it is still valid however, it's still under my maiden name. Would that be okay?

If you want to change your passport to your married name while you are still in 'pinas, then you will be required to complete the CFO seminar (Commission on Filipinos Overseas).

Even if you do not change your passport to your married name, you will still be required to complete the CFO seminar and have the CFO sticker in your passport in order to board a flight to the U.S.

. Hope this helps. I was sponsored as K3 visa in 2012 but they approved it as CR1 in two months. If u have a child please submit another form I 130. That caused our delay coz my son was not approved on any application coz we never submitted I130 for him.

As K3, we have no idea about the changing of status at DFA. What we should've done is, before he filed the sponsorship we should've Report our Marriage since we got married in other country. In your case, i suggest that you change status at DFA, bring your marriage certificate ( if you're married in Ph) and attend a CFO seminar in Cebu or Manila ( that is their new requirement as what i knew from someone i met at CFO, she need the seminar for "change of status").

After you have changed then you can file the sponsorship with everything with your husbands surname.

At your advantage, once you get the visa. All you do is just get the CFO sticker coz u have already attended and you already got the CFO certificate since you cannot leave the country without it.

Hope this helps.

If it's truly a K3 (you submitted a DS-160 not a DS-260) then you can adjust your status in the USA with your married name and leave your maiden name on the passport. Any and all travel outside the USA, however, will need to be booked in passport name only.

If you submitted a DS-260 and are actually getting a CR1/IR1 visa, then visa will be in passport name, and the green card will be in visa name. So you will be using your maiden name in the USA unless you either change it now, OR pay $450 to change it after arrival.

Sponsorship doesn't happen until the AOS (affidavit of support) is submitted. Beyond that he's a PETITIONER and you are a BENEFICIARY.

Also your case is highly unusual in it's timeline. It should never take 19 months for the I-130 to reach the NVC.

I-130 Approved : 2013-05-06
NVC Received : 2015-01-12

By the way when my husband filed the sponsorship, everything was in my maiden name, my child used my maiden name too. Our sponsorship was K3 then became CR and then IR. Doesnt matter if you change it or not.

An unrelated post + reply have been split from this thread, moved to the "Bringing Family Members of Permanent Residents to America" forum, and given the topic title "Need to Renew Passport before F-2A Filed? [split topic]."

The poster now doesn't need to start a new thread. :)

I'm really not sure what type of visa we filed for. But I am sure my husband filed an I 130 for everyone of us and he already used my married name when he did. He filed for all 3 of us. Me, our son and my daughter.

Hi! I'm not sure what type of visa we applied for. Sorry I'm new with all of this and I'm not really familiar with the terminologies. But my husband did submit I 130 for me, my daughter and our son. And yes, we got married here in the Philippines.
