I finally booked my ticket, i'm so excited. Now the extra fun part starts, selling all my things and moving and transporting my wedding dress.

I'm getting my dress made in my country as it will work to be cheaper. I have booked my flight with Emirates and my connection in the U.S is Jet Blue.

I have called Emirates and they have said it is ok for me to take my dress with me, however it will be counted as one cabin luggage, we're only allowed one.

So herein lies the problem. I have a fragile wedding dress and my brown visa envelope and other documentation that one needs when flying. These things can fit into a bag. I thought i could take a bag with the documents and the wedding dress, now they are saying it is one or the other.

My question is has anyone flown with Emirates and got on board with a dress and handbag (laptop bag size). I have just realized you're not allowed to check in your laptop either! So i have that too. Essentially i can fit all of them into one bag.

Will they let me on with two items of cabin luggage?

Most planes you are allowed a cabin bag in this case your wedding dress and then a small bag (Like women have or computer bag) can't the stuff fit in there?

That's what i had planned. But when i called the airline to reserve a spot for my dress they said i can only take my dress and no other bag/handbag.

I mean surely it's not a huge deal. Maybe it will be a different story at check-in and they will be kind.

The feeling i got was she was working in a call centre and could not deviate from the manual.

Well never heard of anyone reserving a spot for a cabin luggage. Try and read on their webside airlines always have info on it

Yes i have been researching so i'm just going to have to see when i get to the airport. The airline said when i called that i needed to reserve/ make a note on my booking. Also there is a closet i think which i think is first come first serve kinda thing, i believe that's what i reserved.

Most airlines allow one suitecase sized bag and one personal item (small bag). I have always traveled with both as sometimes I don't check large luggage (although I have been recently). It should be ok but I have never flown with that airline,

I had travelled with my wedding dress and had to fit it in the suitcase which is my carry on. Never had problems with space in the cabin (i didnt have to reserve a space lol) But aside from that, i had my "purse" which is actually a big tote which held my visa packet, electronics and other personal items. You can just fold your dress neatly and have professionals fix the wrinkles. Thats what I did and it worked out well. :) oh and congrats! :)

Most, if not all, airlines have a coat rack in the first or business class of their aircraft (intercontinental flights). I'm sure when you show up with a wedding dress they will make room for it. However, the problem is on your connecting flight. You state you will be using Jet Blue. There is a good change they will not have coat rack on their aircraft. So you will be forced to carry it on your lap, stuff it under the seat in front of you or stick it in the overhead.

Many people try to get one extra piece on the plane. Fortunately, the rules applies to everyone equally. If one person gets to have an extra carryon, then it's not fair to not let everyone have another carryon. No one gets special treatment.

If you have extra luggage, you will have to check it and pay the fee.

but i dont think you will have a problem with a carryon and a tote (a big purse for your laptop/papers ect). even if on the airline website it says that, they are never that strict when you show up and go through security. Their isnt anyone from the airline actually counting bags! People and flight attendants are really nice as well and if you tell them you have a dress, they may let you hang it somewhere where it wont get ruined:)

This is true. And you can also put your tote under the seat and the suitcase in the overhead compartment. Just make sure that the dimensions of your carry on suitcase complies with the airline rule. :) don't worry, it will work out well. :)
