no mailing address--how do we complete the visa application?

Hi. We are trying to help my father in law apply for a visitor's visa. He lives in Haiti where there isn't much of a postal system. He does not have an exact physical address, nor does he have a mailing address. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can we use our address in the US as his mailing address? It doesn't appear that we can skip those boxes on the online DS-160 application website. There are mail companies that have PO boxes in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale that fly the mail to Haiti several times a week. Does he need to get service with one of those companies while doing the visa process.

The most important thing in getting the visitor visa is that the applicant can show strong ties to home. Having a US postal address or not being able to give some sort of residential address in his hometown cannot be helpful. The CO at the embassy will be familiar with the postal and residential norms there in country.

you mean he doesn't have a house at all or just not the address format like we have in US. There should be a name of the village or city where he lives. That name needs to be put in D-160. You use your US address and you are asking for the visa denial since the CO will assume he intends to stay in US.

I am familiar with cases like this one in Haiti. That has never stopped anybody that I know of from immigrating. Usually if the person lives way out in the country you just use an address of a close friend/relative in a major city as a "mailing" address for him while you can list his actual address as his residence. Addresses that are not properly designated can be described. I have done that in the past and there has never been an issue. What's most important is the mailing address.
