Living Conditions in Manila, Philippines Bad for Her

My fiancee, now in Manila, is at a place where there are bugs, ants, ticks, bed bugs, lice in the hair of the teenager, and fleas. The people she lives with are, to my standards, dirty (I am sorry if this offends anyone). The people are used to these conditions. My finances says this is a squatters place. So, she is getting bitten by bugs, bumps on her, and eventually not going to look good in a medical. Of course her health. This place is close to the Embassy. She has no place else to go, and we do not have money for her to be at a hotel or something. Bed and Breakfast? I could not afford that, and I am currently supporting her now. So I do not know what to do. Any time I mention certain medicines or things I would do in America, it is always "too expensive" to do there. She is getting eaten and if she stays, which does not want to because she is getting rashes on her by bugs, people she interviews for anything will think she is dirty. The people she living with will do nothing.

I do not know what to do for her. She has no place else to go, and we not even have NOA2 yet.

What can she do? Where can she go that is safe? Cheap? Safe and cheap? I can get her maybe (USD) $200-300 a month, but anything else, I will not have for basic needs here. If she lived here, we be under same roof and food, but the government does not care to rush for us it seems.

Any thoughts that could work? Please.

Thank you.

I want an edit button!!!!!!!!!

They even keep touching her stuff (toilettes and clothes, shampoo and hairbrush are used by people with lice, and she can not hide any of it) is basically all she has, except for things from me. Even some money was stolen.

Get a job so she could afford somewhere nicer?

Me get a job? I only got a temp since my lay off four years ago. My BA not helping me with something more permanent since.

Her get a job? She tries but places will not take her due to age, and for 18h days, pay is less than cab fares.

Sorry, your answer was not a helpful one. Need more thought into it, butt hanks for trying.

Tell her to get out of Manila. For $200 - $300 bucks a month in a village she could live like a queen.

A village? Do you have suggestions?

I agree with Boiler. She needs to get a job. Actually, the money you are sending are more than enough as long as she knows how to use them well. She could find a better place (bed space) for 2-3k Php, that leaves her a lot more to spend for her daily needs which for me is really more than enough if she is getting $300 from you. But the simplest answer is to get a job so she could afford to rent a room a small apt for herself.

if you can send her 200/300 a month she can live in a decent boarding house, there are plenty in that area, if she moves a little farther out from Manila there even cheaper, go to the yahoo group MAGANAK, a group of Americans married to Filipina, and many there going through the visa process. There are people on the ground in Manila, and they know some cost places to live.

Angeles City, Pampanga is not so bad. She can get her own studio type apt for 5-6k Php, will have to pay electric and sometimes even water or have a bed spacers for 1-2k all included. It is also not too far from Manila, probably 2-3 hours with traffic. Without traffic, around 1.5-2 hours.

LOL I do not think sending her to a town with 100's of girly bars would be a very good idea, but she could easily get a job, just not on the OP would be happy with.

There are indeed 100s of bars in AC but If she wouldn't go to the bar and apply I don't think they will force her to do so. Also, there are a lot of call centers and factories in Clark that she could choose from. I know some people who gets hired on their 40's and if the fiance is older than 40, she could still try.

I think you are a little bit stereotyping though. Not all women in AC, visitors or locals works in the bar. I know you didn't say that but it sounded like it. I am not from AC but I worked in AC and not in the bar.

Hello I am a Filipina now here in US and going through change of status process..how old is your fiancee? I will check with my sister if she can help her as she lives in Pasig City , not so far from the embassy. What is her educational attainment? did she work before? if yes, what type of job ? Just to see how we can help her find a job or assist her in any way.

I'm confused:

Your fiancée worked overseas, yet she has no money?

Even though you are sending her $200-300 per month, she prefers to live with squatters rather than renting a bed spacer?

THIS is the response OP was looking for. Pushing the criticism aside, he was seeking / networking the VJ community looking for help. Thank you, amberammo9915, for reaching out. I hope your sister can help.

For OP, if this doesn't pan out, be specific in your next post. Ask fellow VJ'rs if they have friends / relatives in the metro Manila area who are willing to share / rent a room. Surely there are cleaner places than where she currently lives.

She didn't say this was her preference just that she doesn't know what to do. Both are seeking help. Any positive suggestions?
