Passed the written test without reading any manuals, just a multi choice set of questions on a PC

Honestly if you've been driving most of the answers are obvious (I've been driving 30 years)

Driving test this afternoon in Santa Monica will update

BTW it cost $33 at DMV

33 $ only to get the drivers license?

Because I need a learners permit too

At least in Florida you never go out in any real traffic during your test. I drove around a parking lot for a bit (stopped for a STOP sign, parked in a parking spot) and drove on to an adjoining surface street (with NO traffic on it). There I had to make a three-point-turn (more like a four-point-turn) and back up 20 yards without swerving. That was about it.

Yup that pays for your written test (which isn't written it's on a PC)

Then you get your learners permit, it pays for your driving test, and pays for your new Photo ID/Licence

I think you get 3 attempts at the written, and 1 attempt at driving test, even if you somehow manage to fail its $7 to restest!

Cheap huh!

Should have waited until I am in the US...

Sorry I only know about California, but I would imagine simlar

Be even easier for you, I had to learn to drive on the wrong side of the car and road lol

I took my test a million years ago in a manual Mini Metro, what a hideous car!!

Posted

I took my test in Virginia - the road test was very easy. I just had to drive once around the block near the DMV - no parking tests or anything.

I'd been driving in the UK for a long time before I moved here but was dreading taking the test in the US because I assumed it would be like the UK one which is quite tough - parallel parking, hill starts, reversing around a corner etc etc.

Try not to get your hopes up, drivers license rules are verrrrry different on a state by state basis in terms of age limits, costs, testing requirements, etc.

I would suggest what others mentioned and look into the specific rules at the DMV in Virginia.

Thank being said, even without checking specific info on Virginia I can guarantee 100% that the tests will be easier here, and am fairly certain it will be cheaper to get in most states as well.

Well it was eight years ago so I can't really remember but here is the fees page from the Virginia DMV

https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/dmv201.pdf

You cant drive with the German license. Its only France and south Korea driving license accepted in the states as far as i know. But you may be waived for the computer test and will only have to pass the practical test.

Germany has a something like a contract with Virginia so I would only have to switch the license and not take the tests again

In Virginia, you can drive with your foreign driver's licence for 60 days after you become resident and you must then get a Virginia licence. If you have a French, Canadian or German licence you can usually just exchange your old licence for the Virginian one without having to take the tests.

Within 60 days of moving here, you must obtain a Virginia driver's license. However, if you hold a commercial driver's license (CDL), you must obtain a Virginia CDL within 30 days.

If you are age 19 or older and you hold a valid driver's license issued by a U.S. state or territory, a Canadian province, France or Germany, you may not be required to:

However, you must pass a vision screening test.

Yes, every state is different but all require you to pass a writen exam for a leaner's permit and then the actual driving test

Study the state manual online (even from Germany now), take several practice exama and Good luck
