The entire episode begs the question: If this individual was not able to handle an unruly teenager, how can we expect him to be able to handle real criminals?

Yep, not like she was going through anything traumatic at the time, like losing a mother and a grandmother. But it is what it is.

She wasn't the victim until the officer acted in a manner unbecoming. Violence was not the solution in that case. Violence is never the solution, especially when it comes from those who are sworn to serve and protect. The officer was out of line. The kid was wrong - no doubt about it, but the level of violence deployed in this case was unwarranted.

I don't think that the rest of the class deserved to suffer this students inability to comprehend simple instructions. I don't think that we should live in a world where disruptive students control the classroom.

The disruptive and non-compliant individual was handled, and in the only manner apparently able to remove her from the classroom she disrupted.

The girl was in the wrong no doubt, but the cop went over the line with throwing her to the floor like that. He could have called for another teacher or another cop to help him escort the girl out. Far too many cops think it's okay to use whatever level of violence they want simply because they wear a badge.

As we see here on VJ everyday, it is a common occurrence for racists to marry outside their race.

how has this story not been posted? anyway, the sheriff, who hadn't been saying much since the investigation is ongoing (eyeroll) is now making excuses for the little big man cop who recently had to fight a teenage girl in order to uphold his sworn duty and protect this girls classmates from such a clear and present threat (another eyeroll).

amazing to me how the sheriff chose to speak on the third video which apparently shows the teenage girl 'hitting' the man beast with a badge as he throws her out onto the floor, after his initial reaction (which is similar to mine)

and yeah, just a snapshot. how much of a weighlifting machismo cop manhandling a child in school should we be ok with?

this is a perfect example of why i don't want armed security in schools. unfortunately there's a very specific type of person that gravitates toward police work (don't read this wrong, not all cops have a napoleon complex, but if a person has a napoleon complex - they're more likely to want to be a cop).

She was told to leave by the teacher, then the principal, then the police officer. So what are the choices. Let her refuse 3 authority figures mutiple requests and let here remain in the class room. If the don't forcibly remove here. How are they going to get her out.

nope. you've got it all twisted. the girl was definitely in the wrong. but a resource office that is actually competent in dealing with teenages could have handled the situation without physical violence. since the resource officer couldn't properly do his job without physically assulting her, he made her a victim. plain and simple.

there are kids that have issues with authority and they will not be broken of that with violence. why do you think the sheriff said his initial reaction was to feel sick when he saw the video? why do you think he was fired? because he didn't follow proper procedure and physical violence is not an effective way to discipline children..

seriously, these are questions you should be asking of professional resource officers who do their job properly. i mean, there's a reason the video is 'shocking' and it's not the actions of the girl. do you really think that teens refusing to give up their phones and throwing tantrums in school is uh, rare? of course not. there are plenty of cops and teachers and counselors who know how to properly deal with teens and their issues with authority. physical violence aint it.

sc can charge students for being disruptive in class. there's a law, the state and the schools have a means to prosecute kids.

cops still can't physically assault minors. i think that's a pretty good standard. and its pretty sad to me that the one good thing about kids having cell phones in school is that they can record the adults who can't properly function in their positions of authority.
