Father of UCC shooting victim said he was blocked from event with Pres. Obama

One family member of a victim of the Umpqua Community College shooting said he was turned away from meeting with President Obama Friday.

James Cooper was the father of 18-year-old Quinn Cooper, who died in last week’s shooting.

James has been divorced from Quinn’s mother since 2007, but said he stayed in touch with his son.

James said local law enforcement included him in other briefings and events involving the victims' families.

However, James said the Secret Service and FBI kept him out of Roseburg High School Friday when President Obama went to comfort the families.

"I cannot believe the president of … the whole United States has denied a grieving father the right to see what’s going on and the right to see,” James told Fox 12. “All I hear is gun control, gun control… hell with gun control, that's not the issue. The issue is we are grieving, we are hurting and he won't see me, that's wrong."

Quinn's father and mother are holding separate funerals for their son this weekend. Fox 12 reached out to the Secret Service to find out why James was excluded from today's meeting, but agents have not responded.

Meanwhile significant facts are missing from the article that make it impossible to get any sense of what actually happened.

I think we are supposed to be shocked because the pro-gun father of yet another victim of gun violence wasn't allowed to protest against the President when he came to visit the site and comfort the grieving. You know, because guns are great and Obama has no respect for Second Amendment supporters.

My guess is that the story leaves out critical information as to the actual reason the father was denied his opportunity to represent support for the Second Amendment. Seems like a mass shooting is always a good time to support further unimpeded access to guns.

No doubt. It's amazing that whenever there's an incident like this - people's priorities are never where they should be.

A lot of families have been devastated by gun violence. Clearly the solution is to go out and buy a gun. Oh and feel proud of it.

They are two entirely different arguments.

I think it's quite selfish imo. It's dressed up like it's some meaningful expression of freedom, but there's almost no concern being shown for the families. Instead the focus is always about blame - on everyone and everything, just not the availability of guns or the culture that lead to this crime being committed.

If it's not the governments fault, it's the fault of the university. If it's not the fault of the university, it's the fault of the other students for not fighting back. Anything so long as the holy gun isn't implicated in not only this event, but a series of similar events that are pretty much unique to the United States.

How many more people will die before people realise that the freedom to life is perhaps more important than the freedom to take it.

Oh and please feel free to object abortion here with that last post - as a side tangent is what this thread desperately needs.

Actually you mention a good point that has always amused me, there are logical inconsistencies in both Dems and Repubs should swap positions on some subjects.
