That could cost a lot of lives if it truly was a bomb and the school was not evacuated. Asking the science teacher is something to be done after the threat is minimized. I think the teachers talked themselves into believing it could have been a bomb, but knew there was never a serious threat to the school.

It depends. If the teacher truly thought it was a bomb, then the reaction wasn't nearly over the top enough. If the teacher knew it really wasn't a bomb, but embellished the story for more attention, (which is what I believed happened), then yes, it was way over the top.

I think Val has it right. If they really thought it was a bomb, the entire school should've been evacuated immediately and the bomb squad called in. My personal opinion is that they talked themselves into thinking it could've been a bomb after they knew it really wasn't, which is why the school was not evacuated.

when i was in highschool, this happened to one of my friends. he was questioned for a few hours by local police without being arrested, charged etcetc..no parent or guardian present. he was held against his will, until the cops decided to let him go, essentially for looking like a punk in public within a few weeks of a building burning down. he had done nothing wrong besides being an easy target.

cops shouldn't be allowed to bully minors.

no they aren't allowed. and they should sue the police department, of course you know the spin that will evolve from such a move..especially after ahmed received so much positive attention.

i don't know about ahmed but generally speaking, cops interrogating minors, bullying essentially, does not do much good for building a young person's trust of the police. i'm a pretty good example, i had quite a few run ins with dirty cops as a teen and still, to this day, cannot give cops the benefit of the doubt when their integrity is called into question. i'm skeptical of cops and pretty much always think they have a personal motive or angle for every move..and i really didn't have that prejudice until dealing with cops who believe they are above the law.

I agree, though after reading the article I posted earlier I do have my doubts about the innocence of the whole thing. I think there is at least some chance it was a bait attempt to get a bad reaction.

I know Dawkins believes this, but in the absence of any evidence and charges against Ahmed, we do not know. If Ahmed chooses to sue the police and the school, the defendants can pursue this question through discovery requests and depositions. Trying him in the court of public opinion on the basis of conjecture and feelings is useless.
