Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years sheet necessary?

My fiance and I are about to send out our I-129F.

On the instruction page it says:

Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years. This should be a single typed page attachment regarding question '34.a' of the I-129F. Make sure to sign and date it.

Is this necessary? We wrote that we met online in 2014 and I came to visit her in 2015 on the I129F form itself at the 34a line . Or should we attach a sheet with more details?

I attached a typed paragraph of how we met originally (playstation), how we began a relationship and then how I had been to the States many times since, and that my fiancé had come with my to a family reunion in Florida and to my cousin's wedding in England (both of which I had evidence of).

You need to expand how you met online or you will be guaranteed to receive an RFE proving it is not IMBRA related. This RFE is very common due to not being specific enough! If it was Facebook, Instagram, video games, chatrooms etc., state so. If it was a dating website, you need to state which one.

I think some people skip that entire part out (I didn't) and just write down the point when and where you two physically met, and be sure to include solid, primary evidence with your application.

I typed when we met online, and then when and where we met in person, and then listed all times he's came down to visit since the first time meeting.

I didn't get an RFE.

There have been cases of people simply saying they met online and then when and where in person and keep it cut and dry and it end up with an RFE asking -where- online.

My fiance typed up a paragraph on a separate piece of paper explaining that we met initially on OKCupid on this date then met in person for the first time on this date at this location a few weeks later, and have met nearly every weekend since. It was a brief write up but something that wouldn't fit in the space provided.

I typed one sentence into the lines on the I-129F proper. How we met and when. No extra sheet. No RFE.

How detailed should this statement be? Should personal details of your meetings be included or just cut and dry with dates and locations?

Keep it simple include facts and state how you met. Easy...i always tried to look at it as making their job easier hehe.

The extra sheet is not required. State what site you met online and not simply 'online'. They have been sending out RFEs asking for more information on where you met online to make sure it was not through an IMB.

If you want to give them more info about you that makes them know you have a genuine relationship that extra sheet doesn't hurt. If you met online they're going to want more info to make sure it wasn't IMBRA. It's up to you how personal you want to be. If you want to just send in the bare minimal required or you want to give them more, that's fully up to you. Some get a way with writing the bare minimum and some get an RFE. I also think it depends on what else you send in as your evidence of being together.

Think about it like this: you might get through USCIS on the bare minimum. But the stuff you send in now is going to be sent to the embassy in your fiance's home country. Yes, you can bring more evidence at the interview. But sometimes they only look at what you sent in to USCIS and if you didn't show a relationship then.... Well you're in trouble.
