Wedding Invitation ok or not ok to take to interview?

For proof of ongoing relationship, specifically for purposes of the interview, is it okay for my fiance' to take our wedding invitation? And/or maybe the contract for our wedding venue? Receipt/contract for my (hideously expensive-- thanks, Grandma!) wedding dress, where it specifically states that the cost is non-refundable?

His interview is 9/29/15. The wedding is planned for 12/27/15. I know the suggested answer to "When are you getting married?" is "Whenever Uncle Sam says we can." But I'm wondering about breaking that rule and would like some advice because I'm concerned about otherwise not having enough proof for them.

We don't have regular phone conversations and seldom send each other emails, because we typically just talk on Skype or through internal comms channels on the games we play together online. And he hasn't been here for a visit since January of this year, so the only photos we have are the ones we submitted with the original application. No engagement ring receipt (I know that's not mandatory but feel like it would help in our case!) because he wants to wait until he's here so we can go together to pick it out.

So I have chat logs, but that's about it. I worry that it won't be enough without the wedding stuff to back it up!

I don't see why you could not show those things, if they ask for more proof. The only problem is that there is no guarantee that you will have the visa in hand and be in the US in time for the wedding date. That is why people always advise not set a firm date and put down large deposits that you cannot get back if your wedding date should not pan out.

I'm not so sure about the opinion in the post just above. It might work out that way; however, the consul might view it as presumptuous that the beneficiary is presuming the granting of the visa. One has to think about it in both ways.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Anything to do with wedding plans, venues, receipts, etc. are great for showing proof of continued relationship.

Showing that you're presuming they're going to give you to the visa is a bad idea. Wedding ideas yes, plans not so much.

I see nothing wrong with it. You already made the plans so submitting them is fine in my opinion.
I read more often "prove that you will get married" rather than "why did you make plans without visa in hand" from the consulates.
Having said that......don't make concrete plans w/o visa in hand, you risk losing a lot of money from possible delays but it's already done so submit it.

Not to be blunt, but USCIS could care less whether you have signed a contract that is non refundable. Canada is a very low fraud country and you have proof of meeting....I really wouldn't worry as long as the rest of your ducks are in a row.

Tbqh, I can say that we want to get married on November 21st, 2015, but I'm not even as much as paying for invitations until he has his visa in hand. I agree with the others about it meaning you're assuming he'll get it. (Honestly though, the only people on VJ in the past year that were denied K1 in Montreal were denied due to criminal charges, so you're right to assume, but still LOL.)

All they want is ideas. When they ask my fiance, he'll say that we'd like to have a small wedding at a local church at some point within the 90 days that he enters the country after he has his visa in hand.

He can tell them what church we're looking at, that we would like to have BBQ on the riverwalk but if not we'll just try to find a BBQ place that has a banquet room, and that we want to stay in a little vacation house up in the country for a couple of days as a honeymoon. All of this is what we want, and ideas, we won't put any deposits until he has his passport with visa in hand.

Montreal isn't that hard on any of this though. Most of the time they don't even ask about proof of relationship. They focus more on the financial and domicile aspect of it. I don't think recently anyone's said they've had to show their relationship proof.

All I sent for proof were a couple of more pics and then the skype call logs from Janurary 2015 until August 30th 2015 because it wouldn't let me go back to 2013 lol, which were about 9 pages of calls ONLY. So, Call to so and so and the time the calls lasted. There's at least one call every two days, if not multiple calls everyday. I sent copies of our first FB messages, and then copies of our most recent messages.

Hmmm. Okay. Thanks everyone for the input!

He'll be interviewing in Vancouver, not Montreal, but it should be relatively similar, right? He's really nervous about what to say and what not to say at the interview-- he's afraid to mess things up! So he wanted me to ask and get everyone's advice before just going against the recommendations.

I guess he can just stick to talking about our generic plans for the wedding, and I won't send him any of the other stuff I mentioned.

By the way, as a P.S., we know it's a bad idea to have done all the deposits and plans and such NOW. But when we got engaged, we were clueless. He read online somewhere that it was a 4 month process to get a K-1. And whatever site he found that on made the process out to be very straightforward and no big deal. Based on that, we went ahead and booked the venue and dates, paid deposits, yadda yadda... before we even started the visa process. We had no idea how dumb that was. Hopefully it will all work out in spite of that mistake!
