Hello,

Okay so, My husband received a 1-year extension receipt letter after we turned in our Form I-751 with our supporting documents (Joint tax returns, Joint rental lease agreements and joint bank accounts). The receipt letter indicates he will get an appointment for fingerprints, photo, and signature.

My question is, "Does this mean he have to keep requesting extensions? What could be the reason he was not approve for the 10-year Green Card? Will we likely get an appointment?" Thanks.

First of all don't panic, calm down

The removal of condition process takes near 12 months depending on the service center you filled ir could be less but the year extension is basically that, give your husband the opportunity to keep his status while he removes the condition basis of his green card, this is standard proceeding, at least for now you guys are good. This is a long road.. You need to keep this document with your expired Green Card to show as evidence that you are still legal.

It means that USCIS acknowledged receipt of your Form I-751 packet, and it will be sent on for adjudication. In the meantime, the letter also serves as a one-year extension letter of his conditional Permanent Resident status. As mentioned before, don't lose that Form I-797 receipt/extension letter (we made several copies).

Hopefully, before the year has transpired, you will either get an RFE (that can be easily resolved), a ROC interview and approval, or a ROC approved without interview. At the present time, this is standard USCIS operating procedure for ROC, it is a long process.....

We submitted our ROC packet in August 2014, received and resolved a RFE in April/May 2015, got ROC approval without interview in June 2015. In the intervening months, we heard nothing from USCIS, other than the biometrics appointment.

So..... sit back and relax, and get on with your lives....

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Is that normal for it to take time to get into the system? any info would be appreciated thank you in advance :)

This is normal. The case number for checking your case status online is going to be on your biometrics letter, not the NOA1.

Check the notice you received for the Biometrics. You might see either one or two different case numbers. If there is one, it should be different than the one on the NOA1 extension form. If there are two, the first one will be the same as the one on the NOA1 extension form and the second one is now the case number you will use to see updates at USCIS. This is what happened to us.

Checking online with the correct receipt number (case) will allow you to see any updates that are being made to your case, like an RFE being sent, and interview being scheduled or your case being approved/denied. But remember it is not always updated in a timely manner, if at all sometimes.

We never had an update for Adjustment of status that we were getting an RFE, just saw the notice in the mail. The same happened for the interview also. No update, just a notice in the mail. It was updated though when the approval and then card production/mailing of card.

Hope this helps and good luck.

We will file the ROC in one month, and just for some reason, I am more intimidated by this process than the K-1 and AOS.,.,.,.maybe it is "nearing the end" of this entire immigration process,

or maybe it is just me.

Just wondered if any one else has felt this way, just before filing ROC.,.,.,.,.,.,

OP, you are fine, with the letter, and expired green card. I do not know what state you are from, but we live in South Carolina, and so glad our petition goes to the California office.

Our K-1 was at Vermont, and we spent an agonizing 186 days there. Wish we had our 1 year letter, I really dread putting all these documents together.

We sent removal of conditions in late August 2014 and were approved in Feb 2015 and the service center was very backed up at the time. It will not take a year unless something drastically goes wrong with your ROC or things slow wayyyyyyy down.

It's possible for it to take more than a year. But anyway as long as I-751 is pending he is in conditional permanent resident status. It's just the proof that expires; if it gets to 1 year then he can get an I-551 stamp as further proof of permanent residency.

I have a quick question. I have the one year extension letter. If I wanna go to mexico all I need is my expired green card and the card and a Texas ID? Is there anything else I need? I'm scared to go and not being able to come back lol I have kids
