taking your american partner's passport to the interview

I was approved 2 weeks ago on K1 visa, they never asked for my partner's passport. They want to see your documents especially the

*AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT AND ITS SUPPORTING DOCU.

* Your own civil documents: passport, birth certificate, police clearance, medicals

* proof of ongoing relationship would include call and chat history, plane tickets to prove that u have met in person, hotel receipts etc

I went with my partner's passport copy, birth certificate (lol) but sorry they are not interested in that cos they already have her details. They want to know how well u know your American partner so carrying her passport is like cheating in exam cos her date of birth etc are there so you can easily answer the questions.

But carry everything you can and only present what you are asked for.

Cheers

One more thing: DONT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION EXCEPT IF ASKED!!!!! You don't want to come out too COCKY that can put you in a long drilling interview.

Mine lasted for less than 5 mins and the CO never asked me for one proof of relationship and I didn't bother telling him I came with a truck load of evidence, I just walked away, what matters is that you have the VISA, not how smart you were to get it.

There are numerous threads in many of the forums mentioning the petitioner being present at the K1 visa interview. There are varying policies and procedures among the assorted interviewing embassies and consulates. Some allow the petitioner to be present, some do not, there are some that require the petitioner to be in attendance. Here are a couple of links that speak about some folks (including ourselves) at the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China and attendance at the visa interview. Since I couldn't be in attendance at the interview (consulate policy), see what I did to assure the CO knew that I was in the area.

As much as it sounds cool to be at the interview, it makes little difference if your partner cannot speak confidently about your relationship. And besides it will be gruesome to insist that the petitioner be present owing to cost if he/she has visited in the past and your partner has evidence of flights and so on. If you can make it at the interview good but if you can't why worry.

Do whatever you can based on people's experience at your Consulate. If it is EVO or whatever it wouldn't hurt to take extra evidence.

The rule of thumb is always NEVER BE FORWARD TO VOLUNTEER INFO EXCEPT WHEN ASKED.

If I am asked where my fiancé is right now my honest answer would be "he/she is in the US but she has visited a couple of times and I have proofs of the visits here" and if the Office decides to ask why is he not here it is simple, we have a wedding to plan and we are keeping our cost very low to be able to have enough money to pay for our wedding so it wouldn't be financially convenient at this time.

In my opinion all they want to see is natural and genuine answers to basic relationship questions.

Your being outside at the embassy is not as important as what your fiance is saying in there and how he/she is coming out emotionally and psychologically to the officer.

We worry so much about papers and evidence that we forget that the real evidence is YOU! Your personality, countenance, confidence and genuineness.

In terms of proving an ongoing relationship, I don't see how carrying their passport would help. You could also be a passport thief :P In all seriousness, your best evidence is photos, call records, and boarding passes/tickets to see each other. And if your embassy allows your fiancé to be there, that shows a lot more than just a document!

Good luck with your interview :)

I was just relating what I did and several others at a designated high-fraud consulate, such as, Guangzhou.

YMMV.

Good luck with that!

Yes, of course it helps that your USC petitioner is on the premises (inside or outside) in support of you while you interview.

Handing over the passport says : He/she is here for another visit because we miss each other terribly and in support of me for the interview.

Why wouldn't it.

Unless I'm mistaken (and that has been known to happen often). one is not allowed to surrender ones passport to anyone that is not required to hold it or handle it.

In other words. Having a hold of your fiance's passport may even be a bad thing.
