Hi,

I just like to ask if we order transcipt on the IRS website by mail will you get a letter stating that you didnt file a tax return?

For example, we want to get tax transcript for 2013 but my husband didnt file for a tax return, will he get a letter stating he didnt file a tax return instead of a tax transcipt?

Thank you so much and appreciate all the help! :)

There is no transcript then. Transcript are for those who filed. The transcript is the Tax return. So no you will get nothing.

Hi-

I believe you are to follow the same process as that of obtaining an IRS transcript online. Instead of a transcript, he will get a "Verification of Non-Filling Letter." However, my personal experience was limited to simply downloading a PDF letter from the IRS website; and I do not know whether he will receive the a different document via mail.

All best,

R.R.

IRS will send notices to your husband's address to give him the opportunity to pay his taxes.. by that time, penalty had already kicked in.

If your husband has changed addresses keep track of that because IRS will not give a damn if he gets the notice of not.

Did your husband tell IRS why he didn't file?

I guess I am confused why you would need a letter stating you didn't do something. If he didn't file 2013 taxes which is now 2 years old he has to give an explanation as to why (if we are talking NVC). If he was required to file he has to do so. Or your petition will not go any further.

You won't be able to do it online, but if you send a written request for the year in which no return was filed, you will get a statement back that says "No record of return filed."

I have one of these for the 2012 tax year.

Edit: It took about a month to receive, so if you need one soon, send the request as soon as possible.

I'm sorry, I might not have been clear. Use Form 4506-T for the tax year in which you didn't file.I wasn't able to receive the year in which I didn't file through the use of the online form and I had to send this form. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf

Then you need nothing but that explanation. No letter from IRS. Plus even if you had a letter from IRS saying "you didn't file" that isn't an explanation.

On tax year 2013 he would write $0 and write and explanation why he didn't file short and sweet simple as that. :goofy:

I found this but i'm not sure if that might be helpful to you since it is for financial aid purpose. But there's something like a Non-filer letter.

https://www.sccsc.edu/uploadedFiles/Pages/Costs_and_Financial_Aid/Financial_Aid_Information/Financial_Aid_PDFs/1314SNOrequest.pdf

Form 4506-T is the hardcopy version of ordering your tax transcript online. If your husband did not file he will not have a transcript. Don't waste your time on that. call your local tax office and speak to someone.
