I have a question. If the US has the highest ownership of firearms in the free world and have the largest amount of gun deaths in the free world, what would more guns solve?

Overpopulation?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: rape whistles?

CCW probably wouldn't have helped in this situation. Odds have it that only 2% -3% of the population carry so given the amount of ppl in the room there was a decent chance no one would be armed. Then on top of that they would probably only have a 50/50 chance of winning.

Of course from an individual's point of view, I would prefer the right to having a 50/50 chance.

still laughing, actually.

If he had voted to allow gun owners to carry their own weapons, Charles Cotton wrote, eight of his church members might be alive.

I would have to agree with his statements.

Unfortunately and sadly they might be right

I guess my point is, we have a ton of guns in this country. Not like we're hurting for firepower. We got folks going to the airport with AR-15's with a 100 round drum for "extra" security. Nor am I saying we should disarm everyone.

Just lamenting that maybe more guns isn't the answer when by last count, there were more guns in this country there are people.

I understand he reloaded 5 times .Studies have shown the mass shooters end the rampage when engaged by another firearm. . As it stands the pastor was for the law banning guns in church.

My view is this. I don't think CCW is a policy answer to the problem. Statistically, CCW holders are so insignificant they aren't having an effect on gun crime.

I still support CCW though as an individual right, because if you choose to carry and your in a situation like this, you have better odds.

And I'm not saying CCW is all sunshine and rainbows, because new risks are introduced.

To your point about guns in the US I do agree with you partially because of those 300 million, probably 299 million are in a safe or a closet not doing anything. Yes people in SC will probably go out now and buy firearms, but they won't deploy them they'll sit in a closet ready to be stolen or hurt someone.

I did wonder given it was a .45 and he must have concealed it. I'm not aware of a concealable handgun that can hold more than 10. (like say the glock 30)

No gun required to take down a bad guy. A couple of unarmed retirees can do it. Real life story.

Loughner proceeded to fire apparently randomly at other members of the crowd.[2][21] He reportedly used a 9×19mm Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with a 33-round magazine.[22][23] A nearby store employee said he heard "15 to 20 gunshots".[24]Loughner stopped to reload, but dropped the loaded magazine from his pocket to the sidewalk, from where bystander Patricia Maisch grabbed it.[25] Another bystander clubbed the back of the assailant's head with a folding chair, injuring his elbow in the process, representing the fourteenth injury.[26] Loughner was tackled to the ground by Bill Badger, a 74-year-old retired United States Army Colonel [27] who had been shot himself.

I don't agree. One gun isn't killing all of the people here. There are more than that on the street illegal, not to mention the folks who are legal gun owners and decide to murder their families. Or the kids who find a gun in the home unsupervised and kills another person or shoots themselves.

The issue is, there are just too many guns out there. More guns isn't the answer. Just like no guns might not be the answer as well.

Mathematically, I'm saying 1 million not 1.
