Man Decides World's Busiest Airport Is A Good Place To Openly Carry A Loaded AR-15

The level of intelligence in the U.S. is dwindling.... What moron thought it was a good idea to let people open carry in an airport?

A Georgia man openly carried a fully loaded AR-15 semiautomatic rifle into Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the busiest in the world.

Jim Cooley was armed with the weapon -- complete with an extended capacity 100-round drum -- when he went to drop his daughter off for a flight last Friday. Following the enactment of new state legislation in 2014, it's actually legal to carry a rifle in the open in the airport, so long as the holder doesn't attempt to pass through airport security.

Multiple police officers approached Cooley while he was in the airport and asked about the weapon, after which he replied he was carrying it for safety. Officers can be heard talking with Cooley in videos of the interactions he later uploaded to YouTube.

"You have quite a few people afraid because calls are coming in left and right," an officer tells Cooley in one of the videos. "People's fears are not my responsibility," he replies. "If you're detaining me, then I'm going to have to file a lawsuit."

People carry all the time at airports . Stay in the area open to the public . Just don't try to take it past a security check point... I have carried mine hundreds of times over the years picking someone up at the terminal ..

You carried an AR in the airport? I understand a handgun, but what necessitates an AR? Edited by NLR

I 100% support a person legal right to carry a weapon in an airport, If you are checking it in as baggage or you are carrying for self protection.

I am not a fan of the handful of idiots who try to make a point and carry an assault rifle on their body.

If you carry legally keep it concealed.........

I actually know someone who used to trawl the lost luggage area of JFK, and pick up French women in distress, offering rides into Manhattan in his limousine.

However, even he didn't resort to using a gun to get his wicked way!!!

Spooky works the the lost luggage area at Logan Airport in Boston, when he's not in the produce aisles.

Why would you feel the need to do that?

So it is not against the law.. Can the airport make it a policy? "Sorry sir, airport policy, no morons with assault rifles allowed on the premises without prior approval" or something similar?

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Because folks have been conditioned to be afraid of an ar 15 I can see it not a wise choice to carry one in an airport . However he is within his rights to do so . That is the point he is making .

You mean in the same way you've been conditioned to be afraid of Muslims and black people?
