Hey guys hope all is well

I have a quick question, I previously intended on going back to the Dominican republic to get my fiancé but now I have been transferred from NYC to Miami for two whole month by my company, we decided to go ahead and have her meet me in Miami I figured it will be a good thing then we come back together to NYC. Now is it a good or bad idea to have her get on a plane for the first time alone and into Immigrations alone? Anyone know what’s the worst that can happen? Thanks in advance

How good is her English? Could she communicate adequately to ask and answer basic questions, if necessary (for example, if she doesn't know which line to stand in, where to go, or the immigration officer has questions for her)?

Airports can appear and feel daunting, but they are generally well signed and there is always help around.

People put their fiancé on planes who have never been on a plane before and send them half way around the world to the USA and all seem to be fine......

If your concern is her flying alone for the first time, and if money is NOT a problem, you can find flights from Miami to Santo Domingo, 2 hours roundtrip same day...and this can be done during the weekends too! You fly to the DR, met her in the airport and return with her the same day. Miami International is a big airport and for me is confusing.

But if she has to travel alone she can find anyone there who speaks spanish and help her out...you can read the the Miami Intl POE review. She can also try to ask help to any dominican taking the same flight that day.

Good luck :)

I have had my fiancé come in 4 times on a B1/B2 visa. Every time they take her back and question her. Two of the times when I was with her they have taken her and I can't go with her so it really doesn't matter if you are along since they will separate you and won't let you in the back. The immigration at the POE are tough but remember are doing their jobs. If she does not speak English, pick an entry point where you are sure they speak the same language. Spanish is pretty common at all POE, but others are more specialized (like more Mandarin is spoken on west coast POE).

K-1 Journey

2/27/2015: Sent I-129F to Black Hole in Texas:

10/7/2015: Interview at Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and APPROVED!!!!
10/22/2015 K1 Visa in hand. Son's K2 visa only valid for 6 months (W-T-F-?) Thought good for 1 year. Inquire at consulate and told visa good only as long as the medical which is 6 months K2 VISAS NOT GOOD FOR 1 YEAR AS ADVERTISED ON DOS WEBSITE!
10/29/2015 POE Chicago; Easiest pass through for Linh in her 4 previous entries.
11/2/2015: Not tuned in enough to Social Security not to pick "the first day of the month" to try to get signed up. Read VJ advice, it's spot on, we had a processor who knew K1. We were in the SAVE database in 3 days so it was easy after a 2 hour wait.

@almostdonewhew the same thing I figured since I am already in Miami that was her best chance to maybe get a immigration officer that spoke Spanish @wbeem although she speaks some English she can hold a conversation but idk how she will handle certain question I'm wondering if she is stuck maybe ask for an interpreter

I found that would cost around 1000 dollars...sooo that's why I said if money is not a problem. And yes, she can find someone from the same flight...and tell her to not be afraid and ask the CBPs and the airline employees where to go. I think she has to stand in the regular line in Miami and then they will take her to an office to process her entry. Just be sure that her package is sealed :P

Good luck :)

All signs are in English. Spanish and creole. Alot of the people that work there speak Spanish. She's coming off a plane full of ppl who likely speak Spanish- She should be ok. Tell her not to be shy and ask for help if needed. They shouldn't be interrogating her so as long as she can answer simple questions she will be fine.

Speaking English is not a requirement to visit the United States. Somehow thousands enter legally every day and do not have a problem.

My friend from this site just arrived a few days ago from Jamaica through Fort Lauderdale. She flew alone and said the only thing they asked her is if she realized she has to get married within 90 days. She said it was very quick with no problems.

She will have NO problem at Miami airport. Usually half of the customs and immigration officers that work there speak Spanish. After she gets off the plane she will have to go to the non citizen line and there is ALWAYS an Spanish speaking officer. I live in Ft Lauderdale so I use Miami airport every time I come back from visiting my family in Argentina so I came to know the customs officers pretty well. Most of them have a good attitude so she should be fine.

After customs, she will be sent to the secondary room (waiting room) for an officer to check her K1 papers. The waiting can take up to 2 hours! So take this into consideration if she needs to take another flight from there.

That happened to me when I first came to US. I was in the waiting room (waiting with other passengers) for 2 hours. She needs to have all her K1 related papers with her in her carry on or handbag (not in the check-in luggage).

PS: If she feels lost, she only has to follow the same passengers of her plane. That's what I did in my first trip. :P

I chose to do POE with my husband because he knows little English and is on crutches. I was glad I was there because the imigration agents at JFK were extremely rude. They were talking wreckless to the immigrants in English. They didn't treat my husband like that. (I'm guessing because I was there.) The agents seemed like they didn't want to be bothered, when its their job. Our process was like 15 minutes in total, others had to wait longer. If you can fly with her do it! If yo can't I am sure that she will be fine. Like the others stated before people do it everyday.
