So...on the way home from work today, I get a very interesting phone call from a very nice lady at the US Embassy in Manila. She tells me they read my recent post here on VJ, and at this time would I like to close the case. I of course said yes. She also said they had confirmed that my X-fiance was still in the country and hadnt attempted to leave. She told me to just email a signed letter from me confirming my decision and they will close the case and request her to return the visa them. I thought this was great, Now I'll have a paper trail with them and a record of what actually happened, in case again I get serious with someone.

Are you saying the US Embassy in Manila has confirmed that your x is still in Philippines?

yes

This is very curious...

(I would be interested in hearing from Hank or Greenbaum on this topic as well as VOL as they have had knowledge of the embassy there...)

But its very very curious...

Neptunes posts are not that numerous on the forums- certainly nothing that would be THAT personally identifying (I would think) to single him out from the very very many case files going through there daily.

There was one thread about having to return with a parental form signed by aunt or something along that lines, but I can not imagine that the workers at the Embassy are that bored that they read a thread on VJ, searched for previous threads from that user and recognized that it was that specific 23yr old girl and dug through and matched up her file and then proactively called up Neptune to advise him to withdraw his petition since he and his fiance broke up (??)

I mean am I the only one (??)

Not only did they do that, but they checked her visa was not used after they issued it. So this was a closed case they re-opened out of curiosity? I mean really? very odd...

Stories of people breaking up are posted on here everyday and I honestly think this is the first time Ive heard of the Embassy calling a user and advising them of what to do!

Neptune- who exactly called you? A blocked number? A foreign number? Did you attempt to call the number back?

Because maybe Im a little more suspicious/paranoid- but my mind immediately goes to, not an Embassy worker but someone in your personal life who has your phone number.

As for the information you were given---in the thread you were advised to make sure all your previous petitions are closed/resolved/ Since this K wasnt going to be used that kind of equals resolved. But yeah having a nice signed letter dated today from you to them to round out your paperwork will be good to have in the future.

Did they tell you what to write in your letter? Because I am half awake here so someone correct this if I am wrong but I believe the only way to revoke your K at this point (after issue- before use) is to formally write that you wish to pull the 134/cancel your intent to wed.

I seriously doubt any one from the US Embassy in Manila called him. I am sure he was being played by someone.

It was absolutely the embassy that called. I was just as surprised. In fact I didnt answer the call because I was driving, She left me a vm with her name and extension and said it was in regards to my visa with my fiance (she used her name).. When I back I indeed got the embassy greeting,,,I know it..i've called enough times. She gave me the instructions on the letter to email and the email address...again a us embassy email address. She did not tell me exactly what to say, just to ask to close the case. Totally legit. So yeah..they obviously read the forums here. Or someone alerted them to read my post

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

based on this information, It would be a good idea to have a profile picture of yourself and your fiance. I would also I add ranting about the unfairness of the embassy and how lovesick we are will be a good idea too! If the embassy really looks at VJ, I would want them to see how damn frustrated we all are and that this isn't some scam game!! lol

I was originally going to compliment you for how well you handled the malicious, self-serving put-downs from multiple posters. Well done. You'll notice they are just hit-and-run cowards.

But this matter of the embassy calling - I am flabbergasted. I've never heard of such a thing, and I have been here for quite a few years. My first question on a call like that would have been to ask how they knew my identity on Visajourney.

We know that the NSA has been spying on all international calls and electronic communications for many years, but they only use this information to hurt people, not to help them. More than likely it isn't just the NSA and it isn't just international communications, but again who has ever heard of the government HELPING someone through its spy capabilities instead of locking them up?

I have a lot of curiosity, especially with my superhero identity to protect, about how this happened if it is true.
