That seems to be the norm with one ways costing more than returns. Seems ridulous, yet that's the way airlines seem to operate.

Many K1's do book a return, BUT, don't forget to cancel the return leg once you've got to the USA. Some haven't, and in rare incidences they get mistakenly logged as leaving the USA when that return flight has been used by someone else. This can wreak havoc for the AOS and permanent residency status, as unless you've applied for a right to travel during that process you'll be seen as being in breach of visa requirements.

Might be worth just stumping up for the one-way in that case just to be sure! Thanks for the tip on that one.

Don't spend extra money. Buy a round trip of that's your best deal. Pick a return that gives a lower price...like maybe not at high season. Can be more than 90 days. You won't be on VWP needing to show CBP you are leaving. Cancel the return. The scare and panic is exaggerated in my opinion. Thousands have bought round trips.

Our CEAC status till only show date updated. When it was first created June 19th, it showed case creation date, but after that it changed to case updated and no longer shows the creation date. It changed on June 25th (Which i believe was them logging medical results from the 22nd). It changed again on July 2nd. I thought maybe this was them issuing an interview date, but when I called NVC they stated there was no interview date, but they showed in the system that the embassy was reviewing the DS160 on July 2nd.

Hoping to get an interview scheduled soon!

Wooderz, does the $75 change fee apply to all classes of flights on United? Most airlines I've flown with state that economy class is non-changeable and non refundable. Only the cabin classes above economy allow the flight to be changed, for a fee. If I recall correctly, American, who I am flying with require a $125 (might be $150) fee to change flights (I'm flying AAanytime class), and it also restricts me to only using the same departure airport if I do have to change it. Not an issue for me, as Heathrow is by far the most convenient airport for me to fly from.

No doubt most airlines have similar policies, but can also have individual policies unique to their customers. Always worth checking on these before booking if a traveler feels that they might indeed subsequently need to change the flight date.

Chas, take a look at this link: http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/reservations/samedaychange.aspx. Remember this is only for same day changes.

Might be worth just stumping up for the one-way in that case just to be sure! Thanks for the tip on that one.

The only reason I think a one-way is a good idea is if you want to: fly in pure style first class with all frills and have a butt-ton of frequent flier miles to cash in with. Which is what we have going for us, and that's why we picked that option. Or if you are especially paranoid about any potential, yet unlikely hiccup.

Nice! We use our miles as soon as we have enough for a flight so neither of us have tons of miles for that. We're thinking about using the miles we do have combined to upgrade to business/first on our honeymoon to hawaii (8 hr flight). We should have just enough to upgrade.

Nevermind, just did some research into United's upgrade with mileage program. Nope. 30,000 miles and $475 each person, each way to upgrade. 120,000 miles and an extra $1900. We would actually save $100 and 120,000 miles just by buying a business class ticket from the start. That is really stupid. I'm gonna see how much they want for an upgrade after I buy the flights.

Ouch! BA has been good to us all these years. 30,000 miles and some standard fare cash for us got him the best class and it was actually cheaper than the current economy ticket one-way. To pay outright for the same first class fare would of cost 8 grand. Yes, I was stunned too.

I swear someone said the delivery for the visas can be delivered Saturday's, however the website says Monday through Friday. I'm guessing no visa again this week since we haven't received anything from the courier?

We flew BA for a couple trips and definitely the service is better. But being in Houston, United has the share of the market. And they now fly the 787 from Houston to Heathrow, which makes a huge difference in reducing jet lag for both of us. BA flies old 747's from Houston and is always slightly more expensive than United. So the $ and the new plane make United our choice normally.
