Worth applying for EAD?

Hi

just to update people who know me and helped me through the application, i have now arrived in USA New Jersey last week( yep brought the weather with me) . it has been a tough few years with my process and so glad to be here finally. any questions anyone had with my complicated process then do ask.

I have now got my Social security number, applied for it the day i came.

i have been reading on some forums it is not worth applying for a EAD, i am getting married on March 16 and then will want to file for AOS straight away. i would love to work as soon as, but for a matter of two weeks is it worth applying for EAD? Once AOS is accepted i can work right?

Please advise your opinions.

Hi,

It is not worth it to get the EAD based in the K-1 since it will take about 90 days to get it and it will expire after your 90 days in the US. Essentially, it would only be good from 0 to 90 days. There is also a $380 fee.

The EAD is free when you file for AOS. This one is good until you get the green card.

You can't work once your "aos is accepted", you have to wait until you have your green card unless you file for EAD.

K-1 Journey: 309 days from received to POE (TSC)

File the EAD with the AOS or else you cant work until you get your green card. It is free to do so at that time. Do not file the EAD before the AOS.

Thanks for the replies, yep makes sense to file EAD AP along with AOS, i sure will be asking more questions at that time. lol

EAD/AP combo card is good for one year from date of issue...if you have not received green card in that time you will have to renew it, you can do this 120 days from expiration of card, a situation that unfortunately us and many others waiting to adjust status have found ourselves in.

You cannot legally work in the US until you have in your possession (not just filed for):

a valid I-766, aka, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), or Form I-551, aka, Permanent Resident Card, Green Card (GC),

and a SSN.
