So I thought by having the case# I could check the status of when it was received etc..but that is not the case, I had to call back and ask. Apparently, according to the CEAC website, you can get status updates once an interview is scheduled.

I asked:

  • 1. How long before it leaves NVC?

She said there isn't a specific date that she can tell me, but it doesn't stay there too long.

  • 2. What is the current status?

She said that it is undergoing Administrative Processing.

My heart almost skipped a beat, as anything I've heard about administrative processing isn't good, but I don't think that refers to this stage I think the negative posts refer to the the Interview or after the Interview stage, so I asked the next question.

  • 3. Is it normal to be in Administrative Processing?

She said Yes.

  • 4. Do we need to do anything else besides fill out the DS-160 at this time?

She said the NVC doesn't have us do anything, whatever needs to be done, such as the DS-160, will be whatever the embassy/consulate requires.

So now I want to know, because we have these dates to fill in on our timeline, is how do we know when our case leaves the NVC, and how do we know when the consult receives it etc.

I called nvc an they said 35-40 days before its in there system but I call today 1 week after it was sent and they told me it was in the system but still no case #. Although I'm not sure about all the answers to your question typically of U call nvc they will inform you about the date it was sent to your consulate.

I should also note, because I left it out by mistake, that when I asked if it was normal for it to be in administrative processing after she said yes she said that it was getting prepared so that everything is in order for the embassy/consulate to receive it (not the exact words, but close to it).

Ours took a week to get to NVC or in their system after 7 days, I called and asked for a Case number today but she told me it would take 60 days.. Not long ago, NVC was taking only a few days to turn files around and send them to the embassy... but things are a bit different now. I couldn't get any answers either.. I know its not 60 days !

I am not sure what can be accomplished by having the case number at this time, but knowing they have your case is a good thing. ....I waited until today to call to get the case # and mine was sent on March 2nd...that's 14 days..they received it on March 10th.

Ok thank you :) my case was just sent today so I'll wait for a few days and start calling.

Is there any other numbers or info I should get from NVC besides my new case number??

I asked for both the case# and invoice#.

They gave me both, not sure why we need the invoice number, but I've seen other people had asked for it, perhaps to track DHL from NVC to the consulate. I have not fully investigated it but I'm seeing that people have tracked their file from NVC to the consulate with DHL

Oh I see....I thought we can track case status on NVC website or something like we could do on USCIS.

I thought the same thing too, as soon as I got my case # I went to check, I couldn't find where to check so I did a search and all the links I come across are for the CEAC website. I entered my case number and it said "your search did not return any data", then I read the at the top of the page a little more carefully and it states that "The CEAC Status Check will not recognize your case number until you are scheduled for a consular interview." That is when I called NVC back and asked the questions that I posted previously.

Now I know we are wanting to check our status at NVC and not CEAC, but I just can't find anything that allows us to do so, all links bring me to CEAC, maybe I am missing something but I am pretty sure I am not.

Here I just found this post where it says there is no way to check unless you call: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/479043-nvc-case-status-check/?p=6803127

The invoice number is not for tracking via DHL, at least not for the method in the the following link

Instructions here for DHL tracking: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/194465-how-to-track-your-case-from-nvc-to-embassy/

The post is old, but I tested the method on random dates and it works, its a little tricky to do because you have to play with the dates.

I was just reading this forum from begining and found out that we can check case status from here.

https://ceac.state.gov/

Well since you have case number and all that, you may be able to check??
