Ewen will come after me if I don't recommend Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials series, too. :)

I'm a non-fiction reader, but that doesn't sound like what you do for fun! I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan, but people either love him or hate him. Seems like you have a good list to be going on with though!

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Have just looked up his books on Amazon and they look really good, might have a peek into one...thanks!

PS....I am not totally hooked on fiction, some of the best books I have read have been non-fiction - true-life and some auto-biographies are great :thumbs:

If you liked 1984, I'd also recommend "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley - if you haven't read it already! Absolutely awesome book.

If you want to read a classic, pick up Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. It's seriously one of my favorite books ever.

This one's always been in the back of my mind as a 'must read' ... in fact a friend lent it to me once, together with 'The Hobbit' (no similarity of course!) and it took me so long trying to understand the Hobbit (sorry all you Tolkien fans but it was just going over my head) that I just gave them both back... will give it another try now though :D

Reading the Chronicles of Narnia at the moment... along with the "Little Women" series again... love those books...

I am a multi-reader... hehe... like to read more than one book...

My sister just bought a book of poetry for me my birthday... haven't started that one yet... looking forward to it though!

On behalf of my Sons, I have to agree...they loved it and went onto being totally hooked on 'Middle Earth' and all that fantasy stuff....and I wished I could 'get into it' with them, but it just wasn't for me!! :no:
