Have just finished 'The Notebook'..so have just finished drying my eyes

Like most things really from romance to crime....just needs a story you can 'get into' - hate the ones that take until the 100th page to understand where it is going!

If you just want a good story, pick up Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. It's got romance, history, action, time travel, religious controversy... I'm going to start the fifth book in the series pretty soon (there's six right now). The first book is titled Outlander, followed by Dragonfly in Amber. Get maybe the first two; you'll probably blow through them VERY quickly, even though they look thick!

Another good read if you just want a story is David Schickler's Kissing in Manhattan; it's a book of interconnected short stories. I really enjoyed it.

I used to hate Historical Fiction but I'm all about Phillipa Gregory's books these days.

Start with "the Other Boleyn Girl"

then the Wideacre trilogy.

I REALLY enjoyed the Time Traveller's Wife....

Try James Patterson.. especially the Alex Cross series.. (starts with Along Came a Spider) they are mostly crime novels and they are very very good..

I will read ANYTHING I get my hands on.

I just finished reading "Three Nights in August" If you like baseball, I highly recommend it. It's by the same guy that wrote "Friday Night Lights" and now I gotta go get that book to read because this one was so well written.

Also check out Patterson's "Women's Murder Club" series, but I recomend that you read them in order beginning with 1st to Die and then 2nd Chance. There are five books in the series.

I also recomend Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. They are a hoot !!!! Again reading them in order is helpful but not necessary. The start with the first book "One for the Money" and go in order. Book 12 comes out in June. evanovich.

Try ebay or half.com for older book at a good price.

Stephen White has his Alan Gregory series that is really good. Each year I impatiently wait for the new book in the series to come out. So far there are 14 books in the series.

Another good series is Kay Hooper's Bishop series.

I don't think any of the books in either series took me longer than a couple days to read.

It's great that most of you are recommending a series of books 'cos I love 'em ... can't thank you all enough, I would have spent hours searching the bookstore for all these! My list still grows...awesome
