NVC No Longer Collecting Original Civil Documents

Hi,

I am right now collecting documents to send IV Packet to NVC. I was under the impression that we need to submit original birth and marriage (civil) documents otherwise NVC will send you a checklist. But now i can see at multiple forums and on VJ also that NVC no longer requires Original Civil documents.

Can anybody confirm it...and please provide the NVC website link where it is stated, i was unable to find it on http://travel.state.gov/.

Yes LoveMyTico, i've been following the wiki since start, and no doubt its very informative, but i wanted to be at safe side that's why i was looking for an official NVC announcement about Civil Documents.

couple of months ago I have received checklist for not submitting original marriage and birth certificate. Along with these documents NVC ask for police clearance also. Otherwise they leave no stone to give Checklist. Actually I was under the impression that my attorney had submitted original but he didn't. Also when I got checklist NVC asked me to submit Police clearance also. Best call them and ask if you any confusion.

Watertight was not the word I wanted to use but obviously my phone did.

Check both if you insist, but if you follow the wiki to the letter, you will avoid a checklist..

The process recently changed. The wiki reflects the new process. The originals are no longer required. It would have saved us a lot of time and postage if they didn't require originals back in April.

I found that information on different websites but not in state.gov website. So make sure you send what they ask for. Maybe it is a good idea to wait till you get the list from NVC.

My question is this.

As easy as it is to get the ORIGINAL documents, why would you take the risk of sending copies.

The amount of EXTRA time it would add to your case to reply for request of ORIGINAL's is siimply not worth to me.

Please keep in mind that some dates are only known after receipt of another document.
For example, the USPS Form 3811. The stamped receiving date was not know until the original Form 3811 was received on 07/13/2013 1:30 p/m CST.

The process changed. Read the NVC wiki please. The NVC loses things very often. Copies are a much better process. You just bring the originals to the interview.
