back in 2001 i had to leave my job of 7 years because the store was closing and as luck would have it, i also found out i was pregnant. so i found a job an hour away, in an office (coming from retail i was super pumped about that) and my first couple of days there i noticed that there were an insane amount of pregant women working there already (and i had been worried about looking pregnant at my interview). i asked my friend if she found it strange and she said no, many women sought out employment with this company because they paid temporary unemployment for six weeks - even if you had no intention of returning to your job after the baby was born. now that, is a crazy rare occurance in the us. but of course that was provided by a private employer. my thought is, for all the money that i've paid into 'the system' - when i had my son and my insurance didn't cover like $3,000 of our hospital stay, i didn't qualify for medicaid even though i was unemployed at the time. because in the past three months i had made 11.00 an hour. no matter the countless numbers of babies i've paid to be brought into this world via my paycheck deductions.

tldr: the system does not support the, always working but temporarily in need of help.

you quoted one of them.

well you watch too much tv.

peddling welfare with your mantra - you keep repeating it.

calm down, no one is lashing out.

I'm perfectly calm. And I still have no idea what you're talking about "peddling welfare"

Ok, thanks for the clarification...it was helpful.

i don't have any direct experience with canadian welfare - but i can say it appears canadians in general are exempt from the puritan ethics that permeate the us. suffer good and suffer well.

Appearances can oftentimes be deceiving which is why it's generally best to deal in facts. It's okay, I won't hold you to any personal responsibility.

yeah, ok. prove me wrong.

Step 1: Unwad panties. Step 2: I don't need/want to prove you wrong. Step 3: I simply asked you a question born out of sincerity. Step 4: You ultimately answered my question. You don't have direct experience with Canadian welfare and neither do I.

whatever. maybe you misunderstand the purpose of this forum. and don't worry yourself about my panties.

No misunderstandings. It's called dialogue/exchange of ideas etc. etc. If you don't want to answer a question, that's your prerogative. I'll still respect your POV.

yeah i get it. at least you tried. (F)

right, but canada has many other means of assistence if one's situation takes a turn or ends up not being temporary.

when my husband moved here - he got an unemployment check from canada for a while. i don't remember how long.

but that's the sort of thing, support for the working, that america doesn't have. i pay sooooo much in social security, federal and state taxes (unemployment, ect) but if decided to move to canada tomorrow, the us wouldn't pay me to do so even though i've paid into the system for 21 years.

So after you immigrate to another country you cal legally collect unemployment from Canada ? Here a person needs to be looking for work to collect . At least where I live .

no, you have to look for work to collect unemployment in canada but when you come to the us on a k1 - you can't legally work until you have your work authorization. so there's an interim where you're simply given unemployment - but why not? if you've paid into the unemployement system why not have the opportunity to use that system when in need?

You complain about paying 3000 for your hospital stay.. Today a lot of folks have to pay 3-5000 deduct under kenyan kare. Something you now support. I find it odd that you support undocumented Democrats living in this country and their use of the free services.. Anchor babies come to mind. Enter the United States have a baby .. Cannot pay the hospital cost.. Walk away scott free. .. Hospital makes up that loss by charging other folks using their services. No doubt you paid in that $3000 a portion of someones medical procedure .Liberals never seem to make that connection. .

Employment insurance in Canada covers a vast many of situations. Unemployment is just the tip

Of the iceberg so to say. EI is also used for sick leave, maternity benefits, parental leave, etc

i just made that connection in my post and i've been making it for years.

i support a SINGLE PAYER HEALTHCARE system (read this as socialism lib - no where close to obamacare)

and i wasn't complaining because i didn't pay that 3000. the hospital wrote it off because of my income at the time. you fail to understand my point, i had private health insurance (and i always have paid for this myself, except for when i was on maternity leave and inbetween jobs, i had no insurance) that didn't pay because the hospital that i had my son in wasn't in their network (i lived an hour away from my job). doesn't it seem silly to you that i have paid for so many babies to be born at super inflated prices (thanks murica) but when i needed to use that same system it wasn't available to me? that's the beauty of private health insurance lib - if you want to believe it or not.
