Food/Drink before Medical?

So we finally got our last documents from the US today. Packet 3 will be sent off Monday morning since our stupid post office closed at 1pm today. We're also going to the physician in Frankfurt Monday morning to have my husband's medical done ahead of time.

My question is...can he eat and drink like he normally does before the medical takes place? He's freaking out (and driving me nuts) that it'll effect his blood test. I had heard from a couple people on here they had breakfast as usual, but I can't seem to find an actual thread regarding this.

I just asked this question of the Irish physician. Their answer was, "Yes." It is not a fasting blood test; however, I would call the office and ask them directly.

May want to drink enough water so they can take a good urine sample. Have you called the medical place doing the exam and asked?

I never thought about the "can he eat" part. I just told my husband go do his medical.

I just got my blood tested this week (not for the offical Visa related medical though). I had to come early in the morning at 7:30 and they told me to only consume water or Sprudel (water with gas for the non germans , no coffee or food.

I would play it safe and not eat anything. Hope this helps!

I had a normal breakfast before the medical and had no problems whatsoever. I am also sure the physicians website would mention it if you were not allowed to eat before the medical. You guys have a pretty long trip to Frankfurt, so in fact, I would make sure he eats and drinks well before this long journey.

The blood test isn't for anything but STD's. They're not testing your cholesterol or glucose levels. Feel free to eat and drink.

Since I just had my medical with the same physician 3 weeks ago, trust me:

He can totally eat and drink normally. I had a big breakfast with coffee right before. Some facts in the PDF for the medical in FRA might be old, but this one is still true:

"The examination for adults includes:

Background questions, blood tests, RPR for Syphilis, urine test, thorax x-ray, preparation of a complete examination report and a physical examination. You may eat breakfast, as fasting beforehand is not required." (page 2)

Many blood tests will get messed up by eating before you take it. This is NOT one of them. Nothing they are testing you for requires fasting. So go ahead and eat.

Another reason to eat is that you are doing a complete medical, not just draw blood, you are done, go and eat. You will be there for a while and don't want to be hungry the whole time.

The blood test is only for syphilis so eating not an issue. Would be far worse to not eat all morning then faint at the medical leaving the doctor to think you have health issues!
