42 days to get case number?

I've been calling NVC every other day for information and they're saying it now takes 42 days from the time they received it for them to give you a case number. Does anyone know if this is pretty accurate or just a line they have to keep on saying? I want to keep on calling every other day but don't want to if there's no point in calling if I can't get the case number any earlier.

They received our case # on Oct. 3rd and we received a "Welcome Letter" email from the NVC with the case # and IIN # on Oct. 23rd. They originally quoted us 30 days and it took 20. If you were receiving emails from USCIS then NVC will receive your email address and contact you when you have a case #. I called once every 10 days or so...no need to make yourself crazy calling them every day. Good luck and I hope it comes quickly (F)

With all the updates to the system, you would think they would change it to it being automated. I heard they keep a call log every time you call. Does it affect you negatively or positively to call a lot? Or does it even affect you getting your case number at all?

On a personal level I do think that calling them makes them feel that you are in a rush and insecure.

My husband file my petition on April 22 2014, September 22 they mailed RFE for original copy of married cert , rec'd it on Sept 27 and submit docs needed on Sept 29 and Oct was approved Oct 10.......with no phone calls made to USCIS.

My husband refused to call saying let the officer do their job that's what they are there for.

The amount you call has no effect on your file (unless you're calling every 5 seconds then I guess that would be harassment but that's entirely different).

They won't shred your file or deny your visa because you're calling about your case every day. You might get one agent suggest you don't call as much but that's not a legal requirement.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

They received our case # on Oct. 3rd and we received a "Welcome Letter" email from the NVC with the case # and IIN # on Oct. 23rd. They originally quoted us 30 days and it took 20. Hi luukee~ Yes, we received a "Welcome" email the morning the case # was assigned. We paid AOS and filed the DS261 that same day. I really don't think there is any need to call unless you are way past the expected date or you have questions~ Hope you get your case number soon~ (F)

Thanks so much jaiyen17. I actually got in yesterday on the phone, and they told me it would be 35 days before they would assign me a case number. I hope this email process would work, it would make sense and reduce the number of calls, since most people are probably just calling to their case number.

They "received" our case on Oct. 3rd. They told us that on the phone. At that time they told us it would be up to 30 days until we received a case number. We were happy when we received the email with the case # on Oct. 23rd.... only 20 days later and on my husbands birthday :.) So...the 35 days is the longest time it will take... if it's like our case, it will come sooner. Start pulling everything (AOS & IV packs) together because things really start moving quickly once you have a case # (F)

NVC received our case on October 15, and got assigned a Case Number on November 7. So you can get any idea on timing....at least for our case
