K-1 Visa Whats Next?????

Ok my fiancee is here, we are getting married next week. Im assuming AOS is the next thing. What form, whats the cost, when is the next interview, and when does the Greencard come, if I recall you dont get the Greencard till after biometrics and the interview. Thanks for the help....

First thing you should do is get her Social Security card before the wedding.

You can get a SSN before or after you get married. If before, you will have to make another trip to the SS Office to get a new one in her married name if she is planning on changing it

It is suggested to get ssn before you get married.

The reason being that a lot of people have had trouble (including me) trying to get our name changes after marriage. They don't like doing it without government proof and therefore have to wait for your EAD to change it.

So it is suggested to get it in your maiden name because some companies require your ssn to do things like credit cards, opening banks, housing etc etc.

I guess it depends on who you deal with at the SS office, my wife got hers and all they asked for was passport, I-94, and marriage certificate.

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.
