I'll ask my wife again how she was treated. I know that she asked one if them "what now?", and they said "go to your husband!" She walked out 2 hours after her plane landed, so it wasn't too bad. She arrived @ 14:30 I think. We chose to fly from Moscow non-stop rather than Minsk-Frankfurt-Houston

Great, thanks. Did she go through the citizen/resident line?

And yeah, Moscow-Houston direct on Singapore is 12.5 hrs of relaxation (and cheap!) compared to routes with stops through Europe or the US.

Ours is a bit of a confusing situation. Many spousal visa immigrants go through POE and have their SSNs within a couple of weeks of arriving. That would be normal. The visa has a temporary green card, so while the real green card takes generally 1-3 months to arrive, you still have proof of legal residency and legal authorization to work in the meantime.

Unfortunately for us the customs agent at POE made some mistakes entering my husband's info into the system, and trying to correct it has set us back hugely. Since he is legally allowed to work, he has been applying to jobs. I expect he could get through an interview and still be fine, but at the point of starting a new job they generally want to verify SSN. I'm not sure what'll happen if he gets that far and we still don't have a number assigned -- I've seen other VJ members say they simply told employers they were in the process of applying and it was fine -- but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

I'm sure its very frustrating to you and hubby to go through this now. I truly hope they get this straightened out. At least at this time, like you said, you can use your visa to apply for jobs and employers hopefully understand that you guys are in the process of getting your GC.

That's how it seems, I'm afraid. Sometimes the draw of luck will get us interview scheduling out of synch, but it is rare (lookup the spreadsheet in Post #1). I myself have been waiting for an interview since July 30th.

is it because your consulate is busy? many didn't get interview scheduled and their cases were complete in july....ugh... i hate this once again!!!!

so excited that i got cc, now im depressed again

not many chinese on the excel. Saylin's wiki said GUZ now opens the case within 7 days after cc and will schedule within 7 days.. ugh... now i doubted.

but good luck still..

Cheer up! I think you'll be fine with getting an interview during the scheduling window next week.

I blame my delay on my visa category. I have a sneaking feeling that my case has indeed been sent to the Consulate, and they're doing pre-processing there before they assign an interview date. If true, I'm OK with it as long as it doesn't take long and will eliminate the risk of a post-interview AP.

so the scheduling is twice a month? well if i can get interview scheduled by next week, that's fine, if it's in october, i still can try to contact the consulate to move up the date a little bit if there are still open ones in september. cause the consulate in china is different now. before when i immigrated, i could pick up the visa on the same day of my interview. it was morning interview and picked up visa at 2pm same day. now it takes two weeks to get the visa, they shipped it to a bank.....

so if we get october interview, then he won't come till november... :ranting: but oh well, as long as he gets here safe, i think i'm ok with it. just a little frustrated, i bet we all are...

Scheduling for October will be starting at the end of next week.. Once you get your's scheduled, and the embassy has received your files, contact them to see if you can get an earlier interview date.

If you have received the interview e-mail from NVC, it should have a list of all items you need to provide at the interview. If the petitioner was not asked to submit those documents for NVC or USCIS, I doubt the embassy would need them.
