My husband's visa should arrive in the mail any day now so I've been looking at flights so that we can purchase when it comes. He's in England, and I'm in Las Vegas, so a one-way ticket is around $1,800 this time of the year. I go back to work in two weeks, so I'd really like him to come pretty soon so I have some time with him before I am back at work full time.

I did find an airline that has direct flights to Los Angeles (unfortunately not Las Vegas) for around $1,200 which is about a 4 hour drive and a little more than half a tank of gas from me. A lot of my family is in Los Angeles and they are asking us to visit before I go back to work, so this way, we could kill two birds with one stone and stay for a few days before returning to Las Vegas.

I am wondering if it is okay to book a flight where my husband's POE would be in Los Angeles and not Las Vegas, where we will live? Any other flight I book will have a different POE than Las Vegas, but they would see he has another flight to catch.

Thank you for reading this and/or replying.

This is not going to answer your question, but have you looked at skyscanner.net? They have great prices for airlines (including one way) :-)

There are no restrictions on POE. You are most certainly okay to meet in LA and visit and do whatever. Congratulations have fun.

I don't see why that would create any concerns.

Also, look at round-trip airfares. One-way fares are usually more expensive than round-trip for the same route. You can set the return date at some point in the future, and call the airline to cancel it after he gets there. (You might even convince them to let you keep the "credit" from cancelling the ticket and use it later on.)

But no, it doesn't matter which POE he uses.

Bill

I like your plan as it eliminates the need to catch another flight and have to worry about getting thru passport control and customs in time to catch the next flight. POE is by definition the first place where you enter the US and go thru passport control and customs. Some places that is actually in a foreign country--most Canadian flights and Ireland. Once in the US he can travel freely. Also, you can use a RT ticket, just be sure to cancel the return leg so the airlines don't sell the seat and forget to take him off the manifest.

Congratulation on getting to this point in your journey,

Dave

Also just to note on this, you can pick connecting flights, just make sure there is plenty of times between the initial connection as the beneficiary will need to POE at their initial stop in the USA.

I flew through Canada to meet my ex in San Diego. It doesn't matter for the visa paperwork. I WOULD recommend saving up receipts and such during the journey, as this will come in handy during the removal of conditions stage as additional evidence.

Ready for my grand ol' timeline? Alrighty then!

10-05-10 - Married in California
06-13-11 - I-130 approved
10-13-11 - CASE COMPLETE!
12-02-11 - Interview - 221g due to a washed passport
12-17-11 - POE - YYC (preclearance in Canada)

2011 to 2013 - Life happened

06-26-13 - Divorce finalized

10-07-13 - I-751 divorce filer paperwork journey begins

07-03-14 - ROC interview - approval pending delayed background checks

07-25-14 - APPROVED! 10 year GC is finally in production!

08-01-14 - 10 year GC in hand. The journey has finally ended. :)

2014 to 2020 - Living paperwork-free and focused on me!

11-09-20 - N-400 filed online - welcome back VJ fam!

6-22-21 - Interview in Nashville, approved! And then...

6-22-21 - Pledge of Allegiance taken. Holy shirtballs I'm a US Citizen.

I've spent so many years in the loving arms of the USCIS, but now it's time to fledge. So long, my friends, may all your journeys also end on the doorstep of whatever you're searching for.
