This girl.

I'm flying out to Seattle on Tuesday, and then renting a car and driving it up to Vancouver. Craig's medical is Wednesday, and then interview Thursday.

Part of me is ridiculously excited to see Craig (haven't seen him since October). Part of me is so scared to go. Bah! Nervous. I know we have everything in order and it'll be fine, but still, nervous. ACTUALLY, I think I'm most nervous about one (or both) of our flights being delayed, or the roads are too bad for me to drive up to Vancouver, or getting lost in Vancouver, or neither one of us having cell phones that work out there, or any number of other random things..

What a crazy winter that I'm actually worried about snow and ice in Seattle and Vancouver!

So, my question for everyone, how do you go about calming yourself? I have really bad physical reactions to nervousness (stomach problems, fainting, etc.) So I have to force myself to be calm, what are your tricks?

We have or interview on Feb. 7th. So we are feeling the excitement as well.

Honestly I hear from most people that the interview is a peice of cake! I think I was more nervous about the paperwork being in the right order. Just focus on the fact that this is the end to this part of your journey. You've made it this far!

Plus you are a girl, you have to be excited about your wedding...and you have your wedding dress..etc..start thinking about the actual wedding day! :)

Have you though about catching a bus to Vancouver and back instead of driving yourself? For the nerves... This way you could relax on the bus instead of concentrate on driving 3 hours on winter roads...

There are express busses from Seatac to Vancouver city and airport, they leave a couple of times a day and only stop a few times on their way up. They are REALLY affordable (I think I paid something like 20$).

Quickcoaches I think is what they're called.

short history:

April 2003 - fell in love

Aug 2004 - go to the US for internship

Feb 2005 - both return to Germany

Aug 2006 - getting married

Hmm...that's very interesting.

We're going to need a rental car anyways in Vancouver, I wonder if it would be possible to just rent the car in Vancouver?

Thanks for the info!

Know the feeling .... I fly to Vancouver in 1 1/2 weeks for our interview!!!

My cell phone has always worked in Vancouver. I have Unicel as a provider now, previously I had Cingular and had never had a problem getting reception. Roaming charges, that's another story!

About the anxiety ... I get a lot of body tension so I try to do things to help with that, get a 20 minute massage (some airports offer them), take LOTS of deep breaths, take walks or do some other exercise. I also try to remind myself to focus just on the present and not on all the things that COULD possibly go wrong (easier said than done).

Good luck!

Thank you so much. I really like this idea. Although, I'll have to check and see if I can transfer my rental car reservation to the Vancouver Airport (and have Craig pick it up) instead of me picking it up at the Seatlle one.

Thank you! This lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.

Best of luck. Ensure u can take ur rental car into canada! The problem may not be going into canada, but insurance wise in case u get into an accident. I knwo some rental companies wont allow cars to travel out of provinces!! Just something to be aware of. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
