i have a queation plz!!!

i m from Afghanistan and my interview will be at islamabad embassy pakistan.

i have a passport which is not computerized.. so now the government started the computerized passports. so my case is about to complete in two weeks.. if i change my passport to the new computerized passport.. does it affect my case or should i inform the NVC or islamabad embassy when they get the case? plz

I asked the Embassy this question and they said it makes no difference at all and you can use either passport they don't care as long as it's valid. :D(F) (L) (F)

We are around about the same as you and I sincerely hope we will be there by Thanksgiving. Not sure how I would be holding up if it went that long. Best of luck.

Thanks msc13, best of luck to you too. Like I said I sent in the corrected I-864 on July 9th. On the 15th I received another email from NVC and thought wow that was fast! But it was just an emall saying they were still waiting for a response to the checklist. I took it as a positive that this may be the only thing holding my case from being completed. This is what the first part of the letter from July 15th said:

The NVC has received the requested DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa Application. However, we are still

waiting for the response to the checklist letter for the Affidavit of Support. Please return the requested

information so that we may complete your case.

Getting a checklist used to mean a few weeks difference in approval, but with how things are now you are looking at a 1.5 month delay.

It may delay more than 1.5 months (45 days). :dead:

It takes time for a package to arrive at NVC (unless you send it via overnight express) AND takes 5 business days for NVC to scan your package. THEN, your 30 business days (45 days / 6 weeks / 1 month and half) starts. :clock:

1 day (overnight express) + 5 days (scan) + 45 days (review) = 51 days! :bonk:

Don't fret about it. As I've mentioned before, I have yet to see someone get a checklist for the DS-260. Just mention it at the interview and all will be well. Don't stress about it!!

Ok thank you if you say so then I wont stress over it I'll just let my husband know. I'll send him a letter to give them so they can put it in the file. :) ty doll. (F) (L) (F)

It's so frustrating all this stress we have to go through. All my relatives and friends in the US keep wondering why it's taking so long. I tell them we're still waiting and they say but you're from Canada and have been married for going on 12 years! I know I have to wait my turn like everyone else, but that's how most of them see it.

I know what you mean! I get the same questions all the time. :content:

Many of my friends think I can just cross the border and wait in the US since I'm Canadian. :D

Did I mention I live only 40 minutes from the border?

Like I said I sent in the corrected I-864 on July 9th. On the 15th I received another email from NVC and thought wow that was fast! But it was just an emall saying they were still waiting for a response to the checklist. I took it as a positive that this may be the only thing holding my case from being completed. This is what the first part of the letter from July 15th said:

Are you doing EP or did you send your packages by mail? :huh2:

If you're doing EP, NVC may be able to check your checklist document faster than 45 days (30 business days).

I think at least one person got her checklist reply in 1-2 weeks and she was doing EP. I'm not sure if she got lucky or NVC reviews EP checklist documents faster.

Ok, so first time using the mobile version and then full version on my phone and I see no multi quote option.

the mobile version also does not have a way to skip to the most recent posts so every time you open the forum you spend several minutes loading page after page to get to the post recent posts. FYI i have an iPhone. Excuse me ahead of time if i'm just mobile illiterate.

I asked the Embassy this question and they said it makes no difference at all and you can use either passport they don't care as long as it's valid. :D(F) (L) (F)

The OP was talking about an older hand-written passport and a newer computerized one. If he goes into AP (being a young male who lived in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, he'll probably trigger the Mother of all red flags), then verifying the former would require somebody to go through dusty archives, if they were not bombed out, compared to a quick screen log. This could translate into a difference of many months.

Did I mention I live only 40 minutes from the border?

This is some serious temptation. I admire your resolve!

I'm 6,000 miles away from the border and yet I'm itching to come over early August to attend a conference and check on our Colorado home.

As long as you don't reach case closed before the change is approved, it doesn't necessarily have to elongate the process. It took us from sending an e-mail May 24 all the way to July 18 (a couple days ago) to get my husband's change of embassy approved, but we continued with the process normally, as instructed. You can see more details in my signature. It did not delay the process for us at all, but his work contract here (in the new country) is up in mid September, so we were getting to the point where we were thinking of calling and trying to cancel the change! That's how damn long it took. But to change it back to Colombia, ugh, I don't even want to think about it. So it's looking likely that we'll have a month or two (or three?) here in Argentina using the savings that were intended for our new life in the U.S. to pay rent and twiddle our thumbs as we wait before he's actually able to do the interview. :/

Maybe you could call and see if there's evidence you could include for him before he actually moves, so you can get that e-mail in now? I wish there were a separate e-mail address for important stuff like this that has to be done by e-mail. Instead, we have to use the same one everyone uses for questions they could just as well ask over the phone. I'd call and ask about your situation as it is, just to make sure you get the proper instructions. Good luck!

Thanks :) good luck to you both as well. I can imagine changing back to Columbia would be a headache so I hope for a speedy interview for him.

I spoke with a rep and because my husband is a French citizen working in Japan, he said all I needed to do was send them an email with a copy of his French passport and a brief explanation for why we need the change. He has a work contract in Japanese I was hoping to avoid being translated if possible.

Here is hoping for he best all around!

Take a copy anyway with original signatures. They are supposed to send the AOS paperwork to the consulate ahead of the interview, but mistakes happen and stuff ends up not making it into the package. At least if you have it there with you on the day, you won't walk away with a 221g and a heavy heart.

Good point-Thanks
