Dear all,

I have an interview with US embassy on mid July 2014, for DV visa 2014 but I am in a different country now. Is it advisable to request the change for interview location now?

If you could share your knowledge, opinion or experience around this topic, would be great !

Thank you !!

Make your way to the scheduled interview. In the last three months embassies are overwhelmed with DV applicants and there is no guarantee you will be accepted for an interview at the new location or that you would get interviewed in time.

I disagree that embassies are "overwhelmed" with DV applicants in the last 3 months, as KCC schedules interviews, it is not up to the applicant. But I would nevertheless suggest that you keep your original appointment for this reason: your appointment has already been scheduled. That means that KCC has already sent your file to the consulate where the interview is scheduled. Changing an appointment can often take at least two months as KCC has to fit you in to the new schedule, and your file has to be transferred from the old consulate to the new one. You'd think that would be a relatively simple process, but apparently not. Realistically the earliest appointment you could get if you changed would be mid-September... Very close to the end of the fiscal year...so any delays could mean that you do not get an interview before 30 September and lose your chance at a visa entirely. There is also the chance, given the large number of selectees this year, that they run out of visas. In fact, this is even more acute for Nepal, where people who track issuances are expecting Nepal to hit the country limit this year. In short, you have two different risks, both of which significantly reduce your chances at getting a visa, if you try to reschedule your appointment at this stage.

For anyone else reading this, if you know your location is changing, let KCC know as soon as possible so that your interview gets scheduled in your new location to begin with and avoid delays.
