So alas, my fiancée is finally traveling to the US to be with me. In old posts, travelers needed to have a sealed package of papers that were provided to them by the Consular interviewing officer, to be handed to the immigration official on entry to the US. My fiancée was not given any direction to do so, but was simply handed back most of the papers she provided during the interview. I know much of the processing is now automated, so does anyone know if the traveler is still required to hand a sealed packet of papers to the immigration officer on entry to the US? Anyone who has traveled on a K1 visa in the last few months?

Many thanks!

I came here last month and still need to hand in sealed envelope. It suppose to contain your fiancée medical. Did they hand that to her?

She should be sent the immigration package via the courier she signed up for. Check in the Philippine forum to see the name of it. I can't recall it off the top of my head sorry.

does she have passport back already, with visa stamp inside of it?

if yes, and she not have the visa packet, contact the IV Unit at Manila immediately - something fell on the floor

or

if she has not received the big mailer yet from Manila IV,

wait for it.

then study what's in it.

should be:

1. passport with visa inside it

2. sealed envelope containing all of the forms, documents, that you and her submitted to get the visa , from day 0 till yesterday and

3. stapled to the outside of the visa packet, a collection of papers that you or her should scan and email around.

so, whatcha got, or don't got?

and - is yer timeline accurate? 2014-04-30 for visa received date...

Nothing has changed. You hand the immigration officer at POE the sealed envelope, show your visa, they take a thumbprint and your mug, and you are in.

BTW the delivery service is 2Go. If you did not get the package yet you can track it on their website. If they don't have it, then you should checck CEAC or ustravedocs as the embassy still has it. Most of the visas are delivered by now, but if you don't have yours yet, the delay has been quite long. You want to know what is going on.

Has anyone entered the US with an accidentally opened visa package? Firsthand knowledge, only, not "I heard of someone..."

Many thanks!

Max

If your package was opened, you need to return it to the embassy to have them verify the contents and have it re-sealed.

No-one that I recall on this board has entered with an opened package without issues... as they either A) went back and had it re sealed or B) one was turned away (at Dublin if I recall) or C... They were paroled in and had to,later interview with immigration to verify all the info.

You will be hard prodded to,find somebody currently on the boards that had this experience as most, after POE and AOS do not come back to'post regularly. But if you do an advanced search in the topic, I am sure you can find details of,experiences of past member...

I been posti g here since 2009... I have seen posting of couples as detailed above... One was turned away at Dublin ad one was paroled.. There are quite possibly others that have been turned away... There was even one who had the package stolen during the flight (she was also paroled upon entry if i recall correctly) Do a search... However, The majority have returned to the embassy and have it resealed. But that was not his question.

There actually was a case on this board not too long ago. The person in question was forced to let the airline staff open the envelope when boarding the plane or they wouldn't let him on. There was a lot of frantic calling ahead to POE and so on and I believe that POE allowed the airline staff to reseal the envelope and things went okay, but it was VERY extenuating circumstances and there was a lot of franticness involved.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

Thanks for the reply, but that wasn't the question.

I am sure someone has entered the US with an opened envelope at some point. That answers your question but does not address the real issue.

The envelope is to be opened only at the POE upon arrival, so if you know of someone who opened an envelope by mistake refer him/her back to the US consulate where they can re-seal it. A K-1 showing up with an open envelope at the airport may be denied boarding.
