Hi,

On April 11, we sent an application for adjustment of status based on marriage. It has been 30 days, and we have not received anything yet. We did not include a personal check or the form that let's you know when they received it. At this point, we don't know what's going on. I believe this application was sent to the California center and not the lock box in Chicago. Should we be concerned about it? We are thinking about calling the National Customer Service this coming Monday.

If you sent it directly to CSC then you sent it to the wrong place, and this is likely the reason for the delay. CSC may have routed it to either the Lockbox or NBC directly for you as a courtesy, or the package may be returned to you.

Thanks for your reply. We used an agency to fill out the paperwork. However, I'm not sure where they sent it. Assuming that they sent it to the Lockbox, is this wait time still ok? From what I've seen from others, they had a response in like 15 days or so.

Usually you receive receipts from USCIS within 30 days. Beyond that and it would be time to start emailing the Lockbox and calling their misinformation line. You would need to confirm where this agency actually sent your application to do that, though. Presumably you have the package tracking information, or can obtain it?

If you used an agency, I bet they also sent it later than they said. That is a common problem.

If they sent it to California, fire them because that was wrong and they should know better.

Good luck. From what you said, there are many possible reasons for the delay. It can take up to 30 from when the package is sent to the right place to get a receipt. Add some time for wrong place or late shipment.

How were the funds tendered? Did you pay with your personal check? Has the check been processed?

I paid using money order. They did not include the form where they notify you via text or email. I'm going to call the agency Monday and inquire about what they did. We are also thinking about calling USSCI on Monday as well.

I hope you didn't make the money order payable to the agency. Surely it was made payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security."

I confirmed with them that they sent the application to the Chicago lockbox. Although, they are saying that is taking longer than usual, I see many getting a response in like 2 to 3 weeks.The money order was paid to "U.S Department of Homeland Security". It has been a month now. No response. I'll wait this week until Thursday. If I don't get anything, I will call USCIS customer service to see what's going on.

UPDATE:

We called this past Monday and they said they haven't received anything. We call again today (5/14) and they had processed the application yesterday. They said they sent the receipts and that we should expect them in 3 days or something. We are relieved to know that it is with them now.

Now, what does it mean once they send you the receipts?

It means they've accepted the applications for processing.
