Hey there!

Don't lose it just yet! I've been on this visa "journey" (lol I'll be here all week) since December and we were very fortunate to get our NOA in less than 2 months! In fact, the interview is Thursday and I'm super nervous even though I'm not the one interviewing!

I haven't seen my fiancee since January but I've tried to deal by just remembering that after this is over, we'll probably look back and laugh at it, knowing that it really made us stronger as a couple.:)

Here's a thread to offer you some perspective:

And here's one to share with him for some laughs (?):

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I came to this community to learn about the whole process and have not yet reached a point where we can start our application.

So far i have been in a relationship with my partner for almost 2 years conducting most of it through varies means, Internet, phone, text messages and emails. Our longest period apart has been 12 months and that was really hard to deal with, however it made us so much stronger and in love.

my thoughts to you is to take every opportunity you can to spend time together, communication is the key!

Do everyday things together as much as possible like cooking dinner while talking on the phone, one of my favourites is to watch a movie while on skype. talk and laugh about whats going in the film. Due to timezone difference we are often sleeping while the other is awake. Setup skype calls so you can watch each other sleep. Being able to say Goodnight at the end of the day and morning when you wake is worth so much.

Do write emails everytime you are thinking about each other and share your thoughts and feelings (happy and sad).

If you celebrate and socialise with friends remember to send a quick sms letting them know you're having fun and thinking of them.

These are just a few examples and things i have found to help when you are missing your loved one.

Stay strong and be happy that you have found each other :)

We're all on the same journey... some of us a little further apart from our fiance/e than we want to be. Does anybody want to share any words of encouragement. I know I'm loosing it. I havent seen my fiance since October and hes a good ol 9000 miles away... not possible to travel and see him as of now. I guess you could say I'm reaching out to those who are in the same boat. Thanks

Just thinking about one day you will be together just like a rest of us here. My husband and I dated over 5 years before he filed I-129F for me. It was hard and sometimes you have to convince yourself that it is wait worth. Spend time together more than other people do in a regular relationship - We did video call on Skype everyday for many hours and more on the weekends-.

You also can do many things to occupied your mind from this stressful journey. Spend time with your family and friends. Learn step by step all the immigration process. I joined VJ long way before my husband filed for me. If you are still working then focus now because after you came to the US, you will stay at home most of time before you finally have your green card and allow to do many things.

It is indeed a long-winded journey! The K1 process only strengthened my relationship with my then fiance and now husband. We didn't have a perfect relationship and being away from each other didn't help. Patience is truly a virtue in this journey and understanding each other's nature took time.

We are very lucky that in this generation, we only need to do a couple of screen strokes, and our messages to our loved ones across the seas will reach them already in seconds. There's also skype and facetime to see each other for hours in a day. Imagine the agony years before just thinking if your letter even reaches your other half!

I am very happy and thankful we are over that stage and now, living a happily married life here. Cheers and wishing you and your fiance all the best! Let me assure you that all those waiting is definitely worth it. :)

Hi,

I see that your fiance is in South Africa. Have him go ahead an apply for his South African police clearance certificate. He can do it himself and pay R59 it will just take 4-6 weeks or he can pay a company to do it around R500 and it will take 3-4 weeks for the company to get the police clearance for you.

If you go ahead and apply you can make an interview date, and won't be delayed because you are waiting for your police clearance.

In Aug, I lied to my employeer and asked for "student status" and told them I was going to school. At this time, I packed as much clothes as I could fit into my suit case and left to be with my fiance. I told customs I was visiting, no issues. Got pregnant in September, and ended up back in canada for my fiance to meet my family american thanksgiving. I crossed back over to the US three days later and returned back in March. I had to go to the doctors appointment that's required for the interview, and then come back to PA for my obgyn appointment. At this time, I was pulled in for questioning; thankfully my fiance was there to help answer the questions, I get far too nervous. Their main concern was if I was just doing everything legally because, it looked like I was living in the US illegally.

After that, I had my interview in montreal March 27th, a day before my birthday. I surrened my passport, and I was approved under one condition, I needed one more person to fianacially support me which meant, I wouldn't be going back home with my fiance, I'd be stuck in Canada for 3-4weeks. I've been here for 6 weeks I believe and I'm ready to go. My fiance was able to come back here for Easter. And that was the last I seen him. My passport was issued May 1st, I've recieved my email from loomis so, a few more days and I can go back home!

My fiance and I text all day, he gets home from work at 11, we'll chat on the phone until bed time. Send pictures through email. We didn't really get into skype, which I'm sure would've been a lot cheaper then a long distance bill but, that's okay. I'm just glad I can go back soon!

the crappy thing is internet is so expensive in south africa and he doesn't have a job there, so we barely get to skype which makes things even harder... right now, whatsapp is our only savior. that and i call him every day, but it drives me nuts not being able to see him.

I understand. Just hold on there. Your moment will come soon. Be strong and positive! It is cheaper to use Skype subscription and you can talk to him almost up 6 hours a day.

I had to stay away from VJ for awhile to comfort my fiancée.we have been a part since September 22 2014, this process is very difficult. When you find that one person that makes you feel so loved and special it makes this process even more difficult, but at the same, makes it all worth it in the end. No one wants to be away from their loved ones, even if your loved one was living right next door. But this long distant relationship is not easy and not for everyone. Our NOA2 is coming, we just need to be patient, love one another and comfort each other through this difficult time, but guess what? That's what we have to now and even more so when we are together. That's love and that's marriage. This is test and only the strong, the true and the patient will make it through this long and difficult process. What gets me through the day is that I know there is light at the end of the tunnel and when my fiancee and I communicate (all day and night every day and night of the week) we don't talk about our petition. We talk about current events our future together and learning and getting to know each other as much as we can. Because when this is over, she will be the person I will live with and love and take care of, for the rest of our lives and vise versa. So this is the perfect time to really get to know the person you will spend the rest of your lives with.

Take advantage of this time. Yeah it's hard to be a part from each other. I cry some days and nights because I miss her, but we can't change the process and freaking out and stressing over when will we get our NOA2 , That will not make this process go any faster. Comfort each other, We both have our strong points and weak points. When she is weak I try to be strong and when I am weak she tries to be strong. That's what a relationship is about. It does not matter if your loved one lives next door or thousands miles away. It's all the same. It takes work and commitment from both people and not just during this difficult process but for the rest of the time you are together.

I hope who ever is reading this take comfort in knowing you are not alone. There are many of us who is going through what you are going through and know we will get through this. Stay positive, stay strong and most importantly, always communicate with your loved one. We can get through do this, and we will!!!

Good luck to all!!! Our time will be soon!!!

And Skype is a blessing, we Skype all day and all night. We watch each other sleep and wake up in the morning. It makes us feel like we are together and not missing precious time we would be missing if it was not for Skype. It's a beautiful thing to be able to see each other, and we have arguments and misunderstanding and that makes this relationship real and grow stronger. We see each other during good times and bad times and I believe this process will make those who are truly in love, make that love grow stronger and stronger. I sometimes think about this whole process and how much I miss my fiancee, I smile because, I know I found the right person, I know I found my soul mate, I know I found my life partner, and I know I will wait forever for her. It doesn't matter how this will take, she is worth it. So if you feel the same way I do, know in your heart, you will get through this, and that you will be in the arms, of the one you love.
