I'll be applying in the next week or two, and intend to include exactly what is listed in the instructions:

-Application form

-Payment

-2 photos

-Copies of front and back of my green card

-Copy of husband's birth certificate

-Copy of marriage certificate

-IRS transcripts showing joint filing for the last 3 years: 2011, 2012, 2013 (you are now able to request these online and print them out on the spot on IRS' website). I did just that 3 weeks after filing our 2013 tax returns and the transcript for 2013 was already available smile.png

Based on the document checklist, no further 'proof of marriage' is needed for citizenship if you have fulfilled one of the 'proof of marriage' document requirements (hence the wording: "send A, OR send B, OR send C" etc). Nothing like removing conditions where they specifically requested a long list of evidence, so I suggest people just follow the instructions.

No need to send utility bills, or insurance cards, etc. Just send the basic civil docs they ask for.

What you send in and what you bring into your interview can be two entirely different stories. We just send in the minimum required by the

For the interview, you have no idea what kind of nasty interviewer you may get, so we included every joint legal document we had. Wife said her interviewer was very disappointed when she could show a completely worthless joint utility bill. But this saved us an RFE, another delay, and yet another 450 mile trip.

Could only ask to myself, why in the heck did they want additional proof of my citizenship, divorce, our marriage certificate, how do they figure my wife got her green card in the first place?

The latest bit is showing proof you paid a five buck parking ticket, but all depends upon what kind of interviewer you get stuck with. Good luck is getting a reasonable interviewer.

After gathering your evidence, here are some assembly tips from USCIS itself: (they appreciate two-hole-punches at the top of all your submitted material)

  • In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:
    • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.
    • Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
    • The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.
    • Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.
    • Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

Sorry your wife had a nasty interviewer. However, based on people's interview reviews in this section of the forum, this seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Most citizenship interviews seem to be pretty uneventful and focused much more on the civics and language tests rather than the actual evidence of marriage. That being said, it is probably a good idea to go prepared with evidence similar to that sent during the removal of conditions process: better safe than sorry!!

Not sure why they would want proof of your citizenship, divorce, marriage certificate etc. during the interview, as you were already required to submit those with your original N-400 package, and presumably, you did. If I'm reading what you wrote correctly, that is.
