Timeline

If you want to get US citizenship, you'll have to live in the US for a minimum of 3 years. After 2 years, you file for ROC (removal of conditions), if you've been married less than 2 years when you do POE. Then, at 3 years, you're eligible to file for citizenship (as long as you're married to the same person). Once you get approved (which can take up to a year for processing and such), then yes, you can decide which country to live in (as long as Brazil allows dual citizenship, some countries don't).

Did you give over both email addresses when you got your case number? If you didn't, then NVC has no choice but to snail mail correspondence to you which can take weeks/months to receive. This is why it's suggested to give over email addresses. And this entire time, instead of waiting on correspondence, you could have just called up NVC and asked for the IIN. Sorry to say, but you've just been wasting time... I suggest you review the first two posts...

Ive been calling once a week... and there are other people who didnt even get their NVC number after 2 month so i guess the problem isnt me... its my bad luck... sorry for being grumpy today make one year since ive seen my husband, one year since my daughter has seen her father...

Thank you Saylin for all ur info ;)

I just received NVC case number. They told me it was just put in the system at 12:30 today. I was so excited I forgot to ask for invoice number. I was trying to give both my email and my husbands email but they told me I could only give mine. I'm a bit confused on how to give his email now.

Called NVC to check on status of documents etc - the DS-261 was just entered into our case file yesterday (even though we filled it out middle of last week - urrr). And they haven't registered the AOS packet yet, but I know it arrived yesterday via USPS. Hoping we'll get the IV invoice tomorrow or Thursday - it seems to have taken up to a week from the DS-261 for other folks.

I'm really crossing my fingers that we might get through this process by early March and get an interview in early April. Here's hoping (for all of us)!

ROUND 1:

29 Aug 2011 - Started dating

05 Oct 2012 - SO's J-1 visa expires, returns to Germany

21 Dec 2012 - Engaged in Germany
21 Mar 2013 - Married in US
26 Mar 2013 - Husband returns to Germany (again)

12 Apr 2013 - I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox

19 Apr 2013 - NOA1 received (notice date 4/16/2013)

11 Dec 2013 - NOA2
16 Dec 2013 - Hard copy NOA2 received
22 Jan 2014 - Received Case # and IIN from NVC - we're in the system!

21 Mar 2014 - CASE COMPLETE!! (received info by calling NVC on 24 March)

06 May 2014 - interview date

16 May 2014 - POE

ROUND 2: I-751 process - just getting started!

18 Apr 2016 - I-751 packet sent to California Service Center

28 Apr 2016 - money order cashed

02 May 2016 - NOA1 received - phew!

16 May 2016 - biometrics appt

Thank you. Since the case is just now being put into the system they said I'm not able to give over the beneficiary email today and I will be able to do it tomorrow. I was able to get the IIN #. When I signed in it says that the payment status hasn't been invoiced and I'm assuming its normal as my case is barely getting in now.

Maybe. I just got off the phone with NVC and still no case # and today is day 25. I love the part when they tell you that you have to wait 10 to 20 days after they receive your file for a number. When you tell them this is day 25 all you get is silence.

My case was received on the 21st and still no case number either. So now I just wait. It's so stressful. I have the money and the AOS packet ready. My husband is still getting his Police certificate then the IV packet will be ready. Why is it taking so long for case numbers? It use to take like a week!

* 21 APR 2016 - 90 Days before husbands conditional green card expires

You must contact the embassy in Manila to find out what to do. The NVC cannot help you anymore.
