Hello everyone,

I'm very glad to find such a helpful forum. Still struggling with my payment options. I'm living with my lady love in Stuttgart, and I'm trying to figure out how to pay. The US embassy website led me here: http://ustraveldocs.com/de/de-niv-paymentinfo.asp , which then sent me here: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com . It's all feeling a bit strange, but the real problem is that there is no K-1 option to select. Is there another way to pay from Germany, or has anyone used this way for a k-1?

Thanks!

David

Are you paying for the K-1 visa processing fee or the I-129F petition form fee? If you do not have a way to provide a check or money order drawn from a US bank, it states you can contact the nearest US embassy to ask about payment options. Is that what you did? They told you to pay for the I-129F petition at that site? That site is all about paying the visa processing fee, so not sure how it would work for paying the I-129F petition form fee. I hope they provided you instructions about that.

I'm just getting started, so the form fee, I guess. I don't really understand the difference yet. That site sent me to this site: https://ceac.state.gov/ to fill out the DS-160 form, but it won't allow me to select United States as my nationality! Grrr... Seems like I'm in the wrong place.

You have it completely wrong. What you had seen on US Travel Docs are visa processing fees that are much farther down the road, when you fiancee attends the interview. I-129F petition fee needs to be paid by check sent together with the petition with funds drawn from US bank.

You are in the wrong place indeed. You have jumped the gun a bit. You need to file the I-129F petition first. Once that gets approved, then the foreign fiance(e) will be able to apply for a K-1 visa at the consulate in her country, which will be Frankfurt. She will then pay the visa processing fee and fill out the DS-160 and need other things as well for the K-1 visa interview. That is later though.

Back to what you need right now. You need to file the I-129F petition. Follow the guide here > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

The fee for the I-129F petition is $340 and you send in a check or money order when you file. Read through the I-129F instructions found along with the forum, here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f

I guess you could get a bank draft issued from there, but could you possibly send the whole pack to a good friend or family member in the US who could write a check for you and send it with the petition from within the US. The problem with anything other than a personal check is that it can't be traced, whereas a personal check .. you will know when it has been banked. So long as everything else is in order and you give clear instructions to whoever does this for you... it will be fine. Not sure if this answers your question, but its my interpretation... best of luck.

Thanks for the help. I have started with the guide which led me to my original question. How do I pay the fee abroad? I am in Stuttgart and have no US bank account that I can use. Suggestions please?

Well, why do you assume there is one ? Those visa are mainly for people residing in US bringing foreign fiance(e)s / spouses to US. Talk to friend/family back in US (you'll have to send them the package first, they add the check and send it over to its final destination) or fly back to US, get money order, send the package.

If you dont live at usa permanentelly , then you arent aligible for k1.

You need to have recidence at usa to apply for k1.

It suppose that you live at usa and want tobring your fiance to live with you.

The fee must to be with a us bank acount.

You cant send the packet from abroad.

In the instructions for filling out the I-129F, it says to contact your local embassy or consulate for payment information if you're living outside the US.

Yes the K1 is to bring your foreign fiance(e) to the US to reside ... I was assuming that this was not a permanent stay in Germany.

You can follow the I-129F instructions and contact the nearest US embassy to ask about how to pay the I-129F form fee while abroad with no US bank account, or you can ask a family member or friend that does have a US bank account to pay for you with their check or buy you a US money order. Since you do not live in the US and will need to supply the I-134 affidavit of support for your fiancee when the time comes, you will need to find a co-sponsor. That is unless you are planning to move to the US and secure a job while waiting for your I-129F petition approval and fiancee's interview.

Post where someone used a family member to write a check for them > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/414511-filing-i-129f-while-living-abroad/?p=6218288

This is more misinformation. Yes, you most certainly can file the I-129F while abroad. People do it all the time. Care to look up information and laws first before posting your assertions?

Can you get a money order issued in USD where you are? The poster in this thread had success getting an international bank draft from their bank in June 2013: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/437281-how-to-pay-for-i-129f-while-living-abroad/

1. If you dont live at usa permanentelly , then you arent aligible for k1. You cant send the packet from abroad.

2. You need to have recidence at usa to apply for k1.

1. You are eligible to petition for your fiance to apply for a K1 visa if you are a US citizen, regardless of where in the world you live. Loads of people send their package from abroad.

2. If you don't have current domicile in the US, you will need to show intent to re-establish domicile. See this recent thread for suggestions on how to do this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/463951-proving-intent-to-re-establish-domicile-without-a-residence/

Just for your heads up, you will likely need a co-sponsor for the I-134 if you can't prove US-based income.

Thanks to everyone who offered their advice in a polite manner! I have a US friend here who can write a check for me, so my personal problem is solved. However, the more general one remains for the next person in my position. I actually did contact the embassy, and that's what led me on the wild goose chase I spoke of earlier.
