Is there drug testing at Medical?

I know much has been said and debated on drugs and usage and bans and all that. I am asking for someone else. Now this is through the Lagos embassy and I don't know if all medicals are created equal.

This person is under the impression that drug test aren't taken (he said the doctor said no). Than he also believes if he test positive there is an extra fee to get a good report to pass the medical.

I would think if a person is a regular drug user for over 20 years daily every day (we are talking marijuana) they will test positive.

So do all medicals take blood and urine and test for drugs? Or do they decide after their Q & A with you to test or not? Or do you think they profile you and decide to test?

Interesting question. At my medical in Toronto the doctor said that they DO test for drugs but I have 'nothing to worry about'. I wonder because I am a teacher he assumed I didn't or maybe he profiled me??!

I am curious and I wonder if some doctors say "no we don't test for drugs" to relax you when they ask the questions to trick you into the "have you ever used drugs or when was the last time you used drugs".

In Germany you definitely get tested for drugs. First thing I had to give was a urine sample. I would assume all doctors have to follow the same routine. They all work for the us government

I know London does not routinely test for drugs. They routinely take a blood sample, but this is for syphilis screening.

They only take a urine sample (for drug testing) if they believe the patient has been using drugs or declares they they have done so recently or in the past.

So, going by the responses already (such as the report from Germany) it would suggest that the medicals are run differently across the world.

They asked me all the drug questions, and my oldest as he was 16 but neither of us got tested for drugs.

I've seen a few ppl on here over the years mention something about tattoos in some Countries means automatic drug testing. Not sure how accurate that is though.

In Lagos Nigeria. As long as you tell the doctors that you haven't used marijuana they will not test you for drugs. But syphilis test us a most.

Things like that aren't unheard of in Nigeria! That's why the beneficiaries from that country have such a hard time getting visas.

One my first visit after the denied interview I was quoted the price of a "back door" visa from someone with the proper work connection. Needless to say I said no.
