Hello, I came to USA on f1 category ( unmarried sons and daughters of us citizens)

I am waiting for greencard to arrive in post at the moment....

I was wondering if I can go to India and get married, so I can file for her....

Someone told me it won't take more than 10-12 months to bring her here....

Thanks,

That 10-12 month timeframe is for spouse of US citizens. If all goes well for the F2A category... maybe.

You can go back to India even without the GC. The stamp on your passport serves as a temporary GC for a year.

You paid the $165 immigrant fee, right?

You can go to India and get married. As long as you (and your wife) are over 18, you can file a petition to bring her to the US. Also you have a green card: It is your endorsed I-551 in your passport and it is valid one year from the time of entry in the US. As long as that is valid you don't have to wait for a plastic card to arrive in the mail. If the PD is current it can take anywhere from 6-12 months to bring her here, and in some cases longer.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

I think OP is asking the same question in a different way in this thread.

If you are US citizen, then yes 10-12 months is the normal time. But green card, it will take to 2 to 3 years. I gave you other options also in your other thread.

Did you check PDs for F2A before posting 2 to 3 years ? If not (my guess), how about you do that ?

Because F2A is current since 2 months does not mean it will take less than 2 to 3 years for F2A . Also keep in mind OP beneficiary is in India which has lonnnng wait times.

F2A always has the tendency to retrogress 2 years. Based on that assumption i came up with that duration. I dont want to give the OP false hopes you see.

Thanks for ur reply

Yh, $165 has been paid..

Her parents have filed for her under the category of unmarried sons and daughter of us citizen . PD is May 2008. Current is October 2006. (20 months gap) I am confused about which would b quicker?

1) marry her and go for f2a which is almost current according to visa bulletin ?

2) wait on her f1 file?

Thanks mark,

I have to choose one of below.

1) go to India , get married and file F2A

2) wait for her f1 file. Pd: May 2008 & current date is October 2006

Which would be quicker?

Since PD for F2A is Septemer 2013, and F1 is October 2006, just alone looking at the numbers, F2A should be faster. Maybe somone in a similar situation can give you a definative answer though.
