We applied to adjust my status in May of '05, so 10 months now. I just checked my district office (New Orleans) for processing dates, and they are only on Aug '04!!!! I know the office closed for a while after the hurricane, but it was way behind even before that! Anyone else looking at a ridiculously long wait for interview? This grey/limbo status is sooo frustrating...couldn't be included in our mortgage application, can't sign up for 401K at work and having to apply for another EAD just wears me down! Anyone elses case look as drawn out as ours?

AOS

It's a three years wait for AOS at the Miami office.

That's crazy...I can see how Florida or California could have long waits, but I didn't think Louisiana would have a large influx of applicants. Oh...who knows! Maybe we should move to somewhere remote for a while!

I've wondered whether one can transfer an AOS application to a different field office. It would sucks to move to a faster office but be stuck at the slow office anyways.

You can if you move into another district, but I don't think you can just by choice....could be wrong though. I'm moving across state soon and I'm even dreading having to change my address then. Seems I'll have to do a lot of follow up to make sure it's done. Unfortunately New Orleans is the only DO in La so it won't help my timeline, but even at that, I'm having nightmares of missing the interview due to the notice being sent to the wrong address!

I have heard that Miami, Orlando and New York City were just about the slowest in the country -- 2-3 years at all of them.

California seems to be relatively fast. San Francisco is running around 7-9 months, Los Angeles even faster. San Diego is around 4 months! So you don't have to move somewhere remote to get faster processing -- you can live in the big cities of the west coast. :D

We've been waiting 14 months in Tampa with no end in sight. I wouldn't pay much attention to the current processing date that they publish. Ours says the same thing but we know of lots of people who've gotten their greencards who filed AFTER us. One thing I've noticed about USCIS is that they don't feel any obligation to give any information about the status of your case or the true processing times. Our online status never gets touched while others do. We got an Infopass appointment and went and talked to someone and asked why it never got touched and the lady said just don't pay any attention to it because it's not accurate. I wanted to ask why they bothered to have it then but I didn't.

You have to remember these are government employees and they aren't accountable to anyone, especially us measly old taxpayers.

You should have been able to get on the mortgage application and enroll in a 401k. I bought a house in NJ 2 years ago on a work permit. I was the primary on the mortgage and my mom was the secondary, and even she was on a work permit.

As for the 401(k), I've had one for the last 2 years and I have a work permit...Dont know what the hold up is or who told you you're not eligible  ..

Well I only care about me and I'm 'worst' off than other places!:P

The 401K eligibility where I work says you have to be at least a permanent resident, maybe they will do it anyway. As for the mortgage, while I could have been included, it would have hurt our interest rate, according to our broker. It's just frustrating to have to wait so long and I know everyone has to go through it, but hey, it's the first time I have whined about it (so far!) ;)

AOS approved, interviewed in Detroit. The whole interview was about 5 minutes. The interviewer asked the same questions that were on the application form (he had our original form in front of him). The interview was very easy with no hassles. 483 days for the whole process (from mailbox to approval).

Good luck and hang in there
