A shooting was reported on Tuesday afternoon at an elementary school in Decatur, Ga., according to school officials.

A suspect was in custody, Dekalb School spokesperson Quinn Hudson told local NBC News affiliate WXIA. All of the students, faculty, and staff have been accounted for at the school of about 600 students, Hudson said.

Police responded to a call reporting that shots had been fired at the Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy not far from Atlanta, WXIA reported.

No one was injured in the incident, Hudson said.

DeKalb County Schools told NBC News that there is an ongoing situation and that the police chief is on scene.

Students were evacuated, and helicopter footage from overhead showed students outside the school and sitting in an adjacent field.

Thank God.

It's great the shooter was taken into custody and nobody was shot..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Dude had an AK-47, among a number of other weapons.

And he was a convicted felon.

How could he have a gun if he was a convicted felon? There's laws against that!

There is no point to be made in the fact that convicted felons can get guns if they want to. Obviously that's true but it's an idea to make it difficult for them not easy.

One of the big local questions is how did he actually get into the school with the gun. The school has a video entry system where anyone entering the school needs to show their identification and they are scanned before the door will unlock and let them in. That is what is disturbing many of the parents according to some of the tv interviews I heard as the events were unfolding.

You know as well as the next guy that the NRA needs their membership drives to continue. Without sick xxxxx having easy access to firearms, these membership drives will be hard to keep up. That's why the NRA will forever fight for the sickest nutcases and most violent criminals to have easy and ready access to firearms.

It was put forward that he simply followed someone in. I do not know what the answer is, but I don't think it is making schools more and more like fortresses.

He slid in behind someone that has access, according to reports.

Things like that happen. I did it the other day in Atlanta, when visiting a friend and forgot the access code.

That and having 300+ million guns already in the U.S.

People like to throw around the car comparison alot. In 2009 there was estimated to be ~255 million cars in the U.S.
